Columbia A. Lori

Obituary:
Columbia A. Hughey, age 80, of Caldwell, died Saturday, September 25,
2004 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Zanesville.
She was born June 22, 1024 near Middleburg, Noble County, a daughter
of the late Clem and Wealtha Green Lori. She was a beloved wife, mother, homemaker,
and a member of the former Barry’s Ridge Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Terry. W.
Hughey, who died June 17, 2000; an infant grandson, Adam Kimble; three brothers;
John, Henry, and Elmer Lori; and four sisters; Clara Lori, Kate Blair, Helen Henniger
and Dorothy Lovejoy.
Surviving are her husband, John W. Hughey, whom she married December
10, 1946; one daughter, Patricia L. Carsey of Caldwell; three sons: L. Dean (Judy)
Hughey of South Olive; James R. (Wendy) Hughey of Caldwell and Marvin W. (Chris)
Hughey of Pleasant City; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great
grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Tuesday, September 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at McVay-
Perkins Funeral Home in Caldwell, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
with Rev. Darrell Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Barry’s Ridge Cemetery

Terry Hughey never married.


Charles E. Wells

Obituary:
Charles E. Wells, 83, of 1432 Wheeling avenue died at 10 a.m. Monday
(Sept. 12) at his home after a long illness. Mr. Wells was born in Noble
County Nov 25, 1882, a son of John and Edella Harris Wells. Mr. Wells
was a retired pottery worker, having worked 18 years at Roseville Pottery
and 14 years at old Weller Pottery. Mr. Wells was a member of Evangelical
United Brethren Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Frances Curry Wells who he married Sept.
21, 1963; a sister Mrs. Clara B. Addis of McConnelsville; three nephews,
Chester Addis of Pataskala, John Addis of Newark, and Carl Addis of Malta.
He first married the former Ida Swope Allen Dec. 22, 1922. She died Jan. 14,
1960.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Arthur Bryan Funeral Home
with Rev. R. B. Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

From The Zanesville Times Recorder, 6 Oct 1966:
The estate of Charles E. Wells of 1432 Wheeling avenue who died last Sept.
12 has been appraised at $11,447. Mr. Wells' widow, Frances M. Wells, is
executor of the estate.


Frances M. Curry

From the Zanesville Signal, 17 Dec 1928 (pg 7):
WILL RECOVER
Miss Frances Curry, 26, of Route 1, who sustained a concussion
of the brain in a fall down the stairs of her home Sunday afternoon, is
said to be resting comfortably at Good Samaritan hospital Monday.
She remained in an unconscious condition for several hours following
her admission to the hospital and internal injuries were feared. However,
later developments point to a complete recovery.


Benjamin J. Curry

Dates of birth and death (from Social Security Death Index) have not been proven.

Mrs. Harry Luckett and daughter, Lora Jane, were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Benjamin Curry of Zanesville Wednesday. While there, Lora Jane
attended a party at the home of Sonny Glass.

Birth announcement:
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Curry of Malta, a son, at the home, Tuesday.
The paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Curry, of White Oak
avenue, while the maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. A. Joseph of
Roseville.


David Stanley Curry

Dates of birth and death (from Social Security Death Index) have not been proven.

David Curry attended Parkinson School in Zanesville, Ohio. In Sept, 1928, the Zanesville Times Recorder reported that David Curry was among eighteen fifth and sixth graders with perfect attendance for the month.

On 14 Sep 1938, the Zanesville Signal reported
Mr. and Mrs. David Curry, White Oak avenue, are the parents of a son born
Wednesday morning at Good Samaritan hospital.

David Stanely Curry, of 362 White Oak avenue, Zanesville, Ohio, was drafted into military service in June 1941.


Dale B. Curry

From The Zanesville Times Recorder, 12 Nov 1969:
Pfc. Dale B. Curry, son of Mr. and Mrs. David S. Curry of Chandlersville,
Route 1 has been assigned to the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Vietnam
as a gunner.


John Switzer

The obituary of Florence Arbrust Adams (Zanesville Times Recorder, 22 May 1938) identifies Stephen Switzer and Rose (Switzer) Hupp of Zanesville as her aunt and uncle, implying that they were siblings.


Ralph W. Mast

Ralph W. Mast’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 3 Apr 1974:
Ralph W. Mast, 75, of 822 Talley avenue, a retired employe of Essex Wire Company, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday in Dayton Veterans Hospital where he had been a patient since April 12, 1972.
A life resident of Zanesville, he was born on Sept. 6, 1898, a son of George and Elizabeth Able Mast. Mr. Mast retired from Essex in 1962. He was formerly employed many years at the old Weller and Roseville potteries. He was an Army veteran of World War I and was a member of Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his widow, Emma Switzer Mast; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Shirley) Trainer of Hurricane, W. Va., Mrs. Thomas (Linda) Hartman of Hebron Route 1 and Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Thompson of Brighton boulevard; a son, Ralph Eugene Mast of Nashport Route 1; 10 grandchildren, a half-brother, Erval Moyer of Maple Terrace Apartments. Two half-sisters and two half-brothers are deceased.

Emma R. Switzer

In 1930, Emma R. Switzer lived with her parents and younger siblings in the family home in Zanesville, Muskingum Co., Ohio. She was employed as a finisher in a pottery factory.


Gertrude A. Switzer

In 1930, Gertrude Switzer lived with her parents and siblings in Zanesville, Ohio. She worked as an usher in a picture theater.

Obituary:
Mrs. Gertrude A. Dailey, 60, of the Old Airport road, died at 10 p.m. Saturday
at her home following a three-month illness. Born Sept. 25, 1912, in Zanesville, she
was a daughter of Stephen and Margareta Hupp Switzer.
Surviving are her husband, Delmas, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Sims of 840 Goddard
avenue, Mrs. Emma Mast of 822 Talley avenue and Mrs. Dorothy Robinson of Putnam
avenue, a half-brother, John Hupp of Dietz lane; several nieces and nephews. A brother
Otto Switzer is deceased.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bryan Funeral Home with Rev. Forest B.
Willis officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery near Sonora. Friends may call at
Bryan Funeral Home 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.


Ferdinand William Curry

In 1920, W. Ferdinand Curry (19) lived with his parents in Wayne Twp., Muskingum County, Ohio. Ferdinand was employed as a plumber.

At the time of the 1930 census, Ferd Curry rented a house for $25 a month at 823 Gilbert St. in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. He lived there with his wife, Elizabeth (26) and son Robert (5). Ferdinand owned his own plubming business. Unlike most of their neighbors, the Curry family did own a radio set. Adjacent households int he census wer those of Lucy Stewart and William Starner.

The Zanesville Signal reported on 20 Oct 1938 that plumbing permits were issued to 20 local tradesmen, among them, Ferd Curry of 1107 Greenwood avenue.

On 28 Sep 1944, the same paper contained a picture of Ferd Curry, who was donating eight hours pay to the Muskingum County Work Chest. Ferd was a supervisor in the maintenance department at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company.
