Selected Families and Individuals

Notes

Henry Huffman

The "History of Noble County, Ohio, 1887" lists Henry Huffman as one of the early (c. 1840s?) German settlers of Enoch Township. Henry's wife is listed as a widow in the 1850 census.

The 1880 census entry for Henry's son John Huffman states that his parents were born in Hesse.

Anna Barbara Scheetz

At the time of the 1850 census, widow Barbara Huffman lived in Enoch Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with six children: Adam (9), Henry (8), John (6), Mary (4), Margaret (2), and Elizabeth (1). The two oldest children attended school. Neighboring farms in the census belonged to Ferdinand Hupp and John Sailing.

In 1860, 53 year old Hessian-born "Fancy" Huffman lived in Enoch Twp., Noble Co., Ohio. She could not read or write. With her lived her five children: Andrew (18), Henry (17), John (15), Margaret (13), and Elizabeth (11). All of the children attended school.

In 1870, Barbara Huffman (62) lived in Enoch Twp. with her youngest child, Elizabeth (21). Barbara's personal possessions were valued at just $100; she did not own any real estate. Her home was adjacent to that of her son, John, and to the farm of Wendell Lori.

At the time of the 1870 census, Barbara Scheetz Huffman (72) is listed as living alone. Neighboring households were those of Adam Schafer and John Noll.

On 25 Jan 1883, the Fulda column of The Caldwell Citizens' Press reported:
Mrs. Hoffman, widow, is also very sick.
There are no women whose married name is Hoffman living in or near Fulda in 1883. There were three Mrs. Huffmans, but only Anna Barbara Scheetz Huffman was a widow in 1883.

The relationship between Anna Barbara Scheetz and the other Scheetz families in Fulda (notably Valentine Scheetz) is not known.

Mary Huffman

Four year old Mary Huffman appears only in the 1850 census. She is not listed with the family in the 1860 census or in Delores Snider's compilation of church records. It is presumed that she died prior to 1860.

Felix John Brahler

In 1910, 24 year old farmer Felix Brahler lived with his wife Cecilia (20) on a rented farm in Marlboro Twp, Noble Co., Ohio. Both Felix and Cecilia were born in Ohio as were their parents. Living nearby was Curtis Schillig with his wife Louise and father Francis Schillig.

Felix and Cecilia's farm was in Harrisburg, Stark County, Ohio. Louisville was the mailing address.
