John W. Burkhart

Sources conflict on date of birth:
20 Dec 1866 -- Hartley
Dec 1868 -- 1900 census
The first date agrees with age calculated from the 1870 and 1880 census.

In 1910, a 36 year old man named John Burkhart lived in Wheeling, Ohio Co., West Virginia. It has not been proven that this is the son of John and Mary Burkhart, but the age is approximately right, and the census lists his father and mother as being born in German and Pennsylvania, respectively. John rented part of a two-family home at 1023 Cherry St. He lived there with his wife of five years, Amelia, and children Albert (3) and Nelson (3 mos). John was a self-employed "produce hand."

Amelia E. Biedenbach

Amelia Biedenbach did not appear in any census with Albert and Anna Biedenbach. She was born after the 1880 censu and left home before the 1900 census. (The 1890 census was destroyed in a fire.) The obituary of her son John identifies Mrs. Louis Kress (Mary Ann Biedenbach Kress) of Fulda as an aunt of the deceased. The 1942 obituary of Mary Biedenbach Kress lists "Mrs. Omelia Burkhart, Springdale, Pa" as a surviving sister.

In 1900, 19 year old Amelia Biedenbach lived with her brother-in-law and sister, William and Justina Koontz, in New Martinsville, Wetzel County, West Virginia. Amelia worked as a domestic.

According to the 1910 census, Amelia's father and mother were born in German and Ohio, respectively. In 1910, two of Amelia's three children were still living.

died in 1929.
Surviving are a son, Nelson, with whom she resided; one grandson; a brother
