Thomas Burkhart

Paralysis agitans is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system characterized by tremors and impaired muscular cordination, such as Parkinson's disease. The informant for Thomas Burkhart's death certificate was his daughter, Clara Burkhart Clark.

John W. Burkhart

In 1920, John W. (52) and Ella V. (43) Burkhart owned a farm in Somerset Twp., Belmont Co., OH where they lived with their children Gilbert H. (19), Clara E. (17) and Vernon W. (14). Only Vernon attended school. Everyone in the household was a native of Ohio, as were their parents, with the exception of John's father, who was German.

By the time of the 1930 census, the family had purchased a home worth $1200 at 127 Sycamore St. in Barnesville, Belmont County, Ohio. The household consisted of John W. (62), his wife Ella (53), and their divorced son, Gilbert (29). John worked as a laborer in a greenhouse. Gilbert was not employed.

Alonzo W. Lucas

At the time of the 1910 census, Alonzo W. Lucas (36) and his wife Eva (34) owned a farm in Somerset Twp., Belmont Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children Alexander (12) and Anna M. (2). Alexander attended school.

The 1920 census entry for the family of farmer Alonzo W. Lucas is difficult to read. The family farm was located in Somerset Twp., Belmont County, Ohio. The head of the household was Alonzo W. Lucas (46). He lived with his wife, Land E. (46), son Winninle A. (21) and daughter Anna M. (11). Anna attended school. All members of the household were natives of Ohio.

In 1930, Alonzo W. Lucas (56) and his wife Eva M. (56) rented a home for $10 a month at 317 W. Church St., Barnesville, Belmont Co., Ohio. Living with them was their daughter, Anna M. (22). Alonzo and Eva did not work outside the home; Anna was a grocery store manager. Everyone in the household was a native of Ohio, as were Alonzo's parents and Eva's mother. Eva's father was German. The owner of the home - who also lived there - was a 77 year old widow named Christiana Gibson.

The obituary of Alonzo Lucas was published in the Zanesville Signal on 3 Aug 1931:
HOLD FUNERAL OF ALONZO W. LUCAS
Barnesville, O., Aug. 3 - Funeral services for the late Alonzo W.
Lucas of West Church street were held from the home Sunday
afternoon at 1 o’clock, followed by services at the Methodist church
at Somerton at 2 o’clock. Rev. Stewart of Barnesville and Rev.
Brodt of Somerton conducted the services. Burial was made at
Somerton.
Deceased was born at Somerton June 8, 1874 and was a son
of Alexander and Sarah Lucas. He had been a farmer for most of
his life, moving here several years ago.
He is survived by his wife of the home; one daughter, Anna Mae;
one son, Alexander of Cleveland, on brother, W.A. of Speidal and
three sisters, Mrs. Grace King of Lewisville, Mrs. Leona McEndree
of Dillonvale and Mrs. Dessie Wood of Maxwell, Neb.
Mr. Lucas died at his home Friday evening following several
weeks of critical illness.


Wendoline Burkhart

In 1930, Wendel Burkhart (52) and his wife Louise (38) lived in Summit Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with children Nona (16), Malvan (15), Magdaline (10) from Louisa's first marriage, and Allan (5) and Rachel (1 yr 1 mo.). Only Malvan and Magdaline attended school. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Joseph Kuhn and Henry Schumacher.

Wendoline Burkhart’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 17 Jan 1947:
WINDLE BURKHART, MONROE CO., DIES
Windle Burkhart, 69, died at his home on a Lewisville
route in Monroe county Thursday evening following a long
illness.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louise Carpenter
Burkhart, two children, Alban and Rachel of the home, and
four step-children, Mrs. Nona Schalker of New Haven, Ind.,
Malvin Burkhart of near Summerfield, Mrs. Marelaine Ritter-
back of Caldwell Rt. 4, and Joseph Burkhart of the home.
Funeral services will be conducted from the St.
Joseph Catholic church in the Burkhart community Saturday
morning at 9:30 o’clock with Rev. Father Joseph Finan
officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill cemetery.
The body is at the Brubach funeral home in Sum-
merfield and will be removed to the residence Friday.


Louisa Mary Carpenter

After the death of her first husband, Joseph Burkhart, Louisa married his older brother Wendle. Louisa's Social Security number was issued in Indiana in 1966
