Charles E. Downey

In 1910, Charles (38) and Imelda (33) Downey owned a farm on Somerset Rd. in Clayton Twp., Perry Co., OH where they lived with their four children Viola E. (10), Pauline F. (9), Charles R. (6), and Joseph L. (less than 1 month). Charles' father and mother were born in Ireland and Ohio, respectively.

In 1930, Charles E. Downey lived with his daughter and son-in-law, Viola and Arthur McCabe, in Columbus, OH. Charles is listed as being married, but no wife is present in the household. (His first wife died in 1927.) No occupation is listed for Charles.

Charles E. Downey, age 94, retired farmer, Wednesday, at home of
a daughter, Mrs. Viola McCabe, 37 Meadowlark Lane. Also survived by
1 other daughter, Mrs. Pauline Bennett of New Lexington, Ohio; 2 sons,
Charles and Lawrence, both of San Jose, Calif; 9 grandchildren; 36 great-
grandchildren; brother, Frank T. Downey; sister, Mrs. Robert Metzger, both
of Columbus. Member of St. Michael Church, Holy Name Society and
Whetstone Senior Citizens. Requiem Mass 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Michael
Church. Graveside service, 12 noon, Holy Trinity Cemetery, Somerset, Ohio.
Friends will be received at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High
Street, Worthington, Ohio 7-9 p.m. Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Rosary
7:30 p.m. Friday.

Emma is not listed as a surviving spouse in her husband's 1966 death notice.


Arthur Wilfred McCabe

In 1930, Arthur W. and Viola E. McCabe owned a house worth $7000 at 1079 Ellsworth Ave., Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio with their children Charles P., (9), Harold A. (5) and Barbara (2 yrs 8 mos.). Also living in the house was Viola's father, Charles E. Downey (58). Arthur, who was a veteran of World War I, was employed as a jeweler. Like most of their neighbors, the McCabes had a radio set.


Charles R. Downey

In 1930, Charles R. (26) and LaVone (20) Downey rented a home for $15 a month at 552 Tanglewood St. in Daytona Beach, Volusia Co.., Florida. Living with them were their sons Charles E. (3 yrs 1 mo.) and Jerome (2 yrs 1 mo.), and Charles' unmarried brother Lawrence (20). According to the census, Charles and LaVone were 23 and 16 years old, respectively when they were married. Charles worked as a house painter. The Downey family did not own a radio set.

Lawrence Joseph Downey

In 1930, Lawrence Downey (20) lived with the family of his older brother, Charles in Daytona Beach, Volusia Co., Florida. Lawrence worked doing odd jobs.

Living in San Jose, CA in 1966.


Robert J. Bennett

In 1930, Robert Bennett (33) lived in the home of his parents, Thomas (65) and Eudora (58) Bennett at 215 Main St. North, Pike Twp., Perry County, Ohio. Living with them were Robert's wife, Pauline (29) and their children, John D. (9), Dorothy (8), Ruth (6), and Eugene (4). The children are erroneously identified as being the children of Thomas Bennett. (Their his grandchildren.) Robert was a dentist, and his father was a tailor. Everyone in the household was born in Ohio.

Lexington, Ohio. Graduate OSU College of Dentistry 1918. Member Xi Phi Si Dental
Fraternity. Survived by wife, Pauline; 1 son, Jack Bennett, Dayton; 2 daughters, Mrs.
Charles E. (Dorothy) Birkimer and Mrs. Warren E. (Ruth) Berry, both of Columbus; 10 grandchildren. Funeral service, 10:30 a.m. Friday, St. Rose Catholic Church, Fr.
Richard Dodd officiating. Burial, New Lexington Cemetery. Friends may call at the
Roberts Funeral Home, New Lexington, after 7 p.m. Wednesday. Rosary, 8 p.m.
Thursday. Elks service, 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
