In 1900, 42 year old farmer John J. Wicent lived on a mortgaged farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 52 year old wife Mary their seven surviving children: Eleonora (14), John (12), Urban (10), Mary (8), Francis (8), Ida (6), and Albert (4). Joseph was born in Ohio to German-born parents. Joseph's father, John, lived on the next farm listed in the 1900 census: that of his sister Rachel Wicent Hepner.

Around the turn of the century, John bought a pump organ for $75. They brought it home in the pouring rain from the railroad station in Caldwell. The last person to repair the organ was Anthony Haren, after he returned from the World War. He later married John's daughter, Mary. (Source: John Haren, grandson of Anthony and Mary Haren)

Mary Ann Schott

In the 1870 census, Mary A. Shott and Joseph Weisent, both 13, lived on adjacent farms.

According to the census, seven of Mary Schott Weisent's ten children were alive in 1900. Church records (Snider) show that Mary had ten children; however no date is given for one child (Maria). Three of these ten children are known to have died: two unnamed sons died shortly after birth in 1893 and 1899, and son Michael died at age 10 in 1897. The 1900 census shows a child who was not found in church records: John, born the same month as Michael (Nov 1887). The census also names the child born in Oct 1891 as Mary. It is the assumed that the Mary in the census and Maria listed by Delores Snider are the same child.

Mary Schott Weisent had three sets of twins: John and Michael (Nov 1887), Francis and Mary (Oct 1891) and Ida and a son who did not survive (Dec 1893).

Mary Anna Schott Weisent's obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on December 4, 1923. The death of Mrs. Mary Anna Weisent, aged 66 years, one of the
best known residents of the Fulda community, occurred at her home
Saturday morning at 5 o'clock, following a lingering illness of compli-
cations. She was a member of the Catholic church at Fulda, and held
in high esteem by a wide circle of friends.
She was the wife of Joseph Weisent, who, together with the following
survive: Three daughters and two sons, and four brothers.
The funeral will be held at 9 o'clock from the Catholic church at
Fulda, with the Rev. Father Oeink officiating. burial will be made in
the cemetery at Fulda.

Albert B. Weisent

According to his great-nephew John Haren (grandson of Albert's sister Mary Weisent Haren), Albert died of blood poisoning after being stepped on by a horse. Albert's sister Mary cared for him while he was ill, and was very shaken up when he didn't recover from what should have been a minor wound.

John Jacob Weisent

At the time of the 1850 census, 26 year old German born farmer John Wysant lived in Centre Twp. Monroe County, Ohio with his wife Fredericka (20) and daughters Margaret (2) and Mary (8 mos). John and his wife were born in Germany; his daughters were born in Ohio. John's farm was valued at $1000. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Jacob Steambert and Frederick Bruman. Two pages preceding John in the census was John's uncle, 72 year old Jacob Wysant (Weisend) Sr.

By 1860, 36 year old farmer John J. Wisent had moved to Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 30 year old wife Fredricka and five children: Mary (11), Alex (7), Virginia (5), Joseph (3), and Leonia (1). Only Mary attended school. Also living with the family was 17 year old John Miller. (John Miller was probably the son of Mary Weisent's future father-in-law Henry Joseph Miller. His brother J. Leonard Miller married John Weisent's oldest surviving daughter.)

At the time of the 1870 census, John Wesner (46) and his pregnant wife Fredrika (40) were still living in Enoch Twp. with their eight surviving children Mary (20), Alexader (17), Rachel (15), Joseph (13), George (7), Leonora (5), Catherina (3) and Matilda (1). The children living at home were all born in Ohio. John's birthplace is given as Alsace, and Fredrica's is Hesse. The Weisent farm was located between the households of John D. Gerst and William Vaughn. John Weisnt's daughter, Mary Weisent Miller (wife of J. Leonard Miller) lived three households away.

Widower John J. Wicent lived with his daughter Regina Heppner at the time of the 1900 and 1910 census. He was born in Germany and came to America in 1832, when he was about 8 years old. John Weisent was a naturalized American citizen. He spoke English, but could not read or write.

Frederica Geisler

Records conflict on place of birth: The 1860 entry for Fredricka Wisent states that she was born in Byrne (Bayern/Bavaria?), while the 1870 census gives Hesse Cassel. The 1900 census entries for Frederica's children Ottilia Wesent Nau and Catherine Weisent Schott state that their parents were born in Germany. The 1920 census entry for her son George Weisent says that his mother spoke German but was born in France (which might put her in the Alsace region).

Only eight of Frederica's fifteen children survived to adulthood.

Margaret Maria Weisent

In the 1850 census, the two year old daughter of John Wysant is named Margaret. Church records refer to her as Maria. There is no twelve or thirteen year old daughter is not listed with this family in the 1860 census. She may have died before that time.
