Daniel Richard Crum

Obituary

Word has been received of the death of Daniel R. Crum, 66, a
retired driver for Mail Carriers of America on April 18, 2002 in
Granbury, Texas.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday April 23, 2002 at
Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Dan Crum was born Sept. 7, 1935, in Clarksburg. He grad-
uated from St, Francis High School in 1953. He retired from the
Army. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Gold W
ing Motorcycles and St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
Survivors: Daughters and sons-in-law, Dana and George
Ballez, of Granbury, Danita and Tony Comanduran, of Benson,
Ariz., Daneen and Matthew Woody of Newcastle, Okla., Danelle
and Rich Gahn of Clear Lake, Iowa, Annette Crum, of Norway.
He also had three grandchildren, Hunter Gahn, Tonio Coman-
duran, and Crystal Comanduran; and his mother, Stella Crum
of Romney; brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis J. and Mary Ellen
Crum of Hurst, Texas, David L. and Johnette Crum, of Atlanta,
and Dennis C. Crum of Virginia Beach, Va. He was preceded
in death by his father, Lewis J. (Shorty) Crum of Romney.


Agnes Pfeffer

The following note appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder 18 Sep 1952:
FORMER RESIDENT OF BARNESVILLE DIES
BARNESVILLE, O., Sept 17 - Mrs. Agnes Pfeffer Lucas,
79, former resident of this city, died Wednesday [17 Sep 1952]
at her home in Sunbury. She and her husband at one time
owned the Lucas farm west of here where the Barnesville Air-
port is now located.
Mrs. Lucas was born August 3, 1873, in Temperance-
ville, the daughter of Joseph and Kuniginda Pfeffer.
Surviving are her husband, Orion Lucas of Sunbury; five
sisters, Mrs. Lena Brown, Mrs. John Gallagher, Mrs. Joseph
Hughes and Mrs. Dan Gallagher, all of Quaker City Rt. 4, and
Mrs. Harlan Hunt of Bethesda, and two brothers, Dan Pfeffer
and E. J. Pfeffer, both of Quaker City Rt. 4.
The body will arrive at the Campbell funeral home
Thursday morning.
Funeral services will be conducted at the St. Mary
Catholic church at Temperanceville Friday morning at 10
o’clock with Father Swindeman officiating. Burial will be in
the St. Sylvester cemetery in Woodsfield.

According to her death certificate, Agnes Lucas had been a resident of Trenton, Delaware County, Ohio for 14 months prior to her death.


Henry John Burkhart

In 1900, 14 year old Henry Burkhart lived with his parents and siblings in Wheeling, West Virginia. He worked at "carrying in boy ???? fcty." (Occupation is difficult to read.) Henry did not attend school.

At the time of the 1910 census, Henry Burkhart lived with his widowed father and siblings in Wheeling. He was employed as a clerical worker in an iron mill office.

On 12 Sep 1918, 33 year old Henry John Burkhart of 1717 Wood Ave., Wheeling, WV filled out a draft registration card. He was an office clerk at Whitaker Glessner Co. on Wetzel St. in Wheeling. His next of kin was his wife, Nettie. Henry was described as being of medium height and build with brown hair and brown eyes and no physical disabilities.

Henry Burkhart has not been found in the 1920 US census.


Edward V. Burkhart

On August 24, 1917, Edward V. Burkhart of 1717 Wood Ave., Wheeling, WV filled out a draft registration card. His employer was Whitaker Gessne Co. of Wheeling. He gave his next of kin as his father, Joseph F. Burkhart, of the same address. He was described as being of medium height and build, with brown hair, brown eyes and no physical disabilities.

Edward Burkhart has not been found in the 1920 census.

In 1930, Edward V. Burkhart (32) and his wife Margaret (30) rented a home for $40 a month in Beech Bottom in the Buffalo District of Brooke County, West Virginia. (A house number (9) is given, but no street name is provided in the census.) Living with them were their children, Rose Lee (10), Robert E. (8) and Harold L. (6). Rose and Robert attended school. Edward was a foreman in a steel mill. According to the census, everyone in the household was born in West Virginia, as were their parents, with the exception of Rosa's father, who was French. The Burkhart family owned a radio set.

Herman Eugene Burkhart

In 1900, Herman Burkhart lived with his parents and younger siblings in Wheeling, West Virginia. He worked as a clerk in a dry goods store. Fifteen year old Herman did not attend school.
At the time of the 1920 census, Herman Burkhart (35) and his wife Violet (27) owned a mortgaged home at 557 Pierce St. (address unclear) in Gary, Indiana, where they lived with their two children, Otto (5) and Adelaide (2 mos). Herman's occupation is difficult to read... it might be foreman in a steel mill.

In 1930, 45 year old Herman Burkhart owned a home worth $10,000 at 678 Fillmore St. in Gary, Indiana. Although he was listed as a widower, the census also indicates that he had been married for 27 years. Living with Herman were his children, Otto (15), Adelaide (10), Ruth (9), and Herman Jr. (5). The three oldest children attended school. Herman was a superintendant of a hot mill at a sheet mill. He was a native of West Virginia, and his parents were from Ohio. The children were all born in Indiana. The family owned a radio set.

In 1942, 57 year old Herman Eugene Burkhart filled out a US military draft registration card. His address was 678 Fillmore, Gary, Indiana. Herman stated that he was born on 11-2-1884 in Wheeling, West Virginia. He listed Mrs. George Visclosky of 637 Taft Pl., Gary Indiana as the person who would always know his address. Herman was employed by the C.I.S. Sheet Mill at 4th & Buchanan in Gary. Herman was described as being 5'6" and 120 lbs. He had grey eyes, brown hair and a light complexion. He had scars on his left arm and right hand.
