Frank Alexander Tornes

In 1910, Frank Tornes lived with his parents and siblings in Franklin county, Ohio. He was employed as a laborer doing odd jobs.

When he was 32 years old, Frank Alexander Tornes of Sta. E, RR 8, Columbus, Ohio filled out a US military draft registration card. He gave his birthdate as February 18, 1886. Frank indicated that he was a self-employed farmer and ice delivery man. His nearest relative was his wife, Anna Tornes. Frank was described as being tall and stout, with brown hair and brown eyes.

The family of Frank Tornes has not been found in the 1920 US census index.

In 1930, Frank A. Thornes (44) owned a home worth $8000 at 721 Mablewood Road in Cedarhurst (Truro Twp.), Franklin County, Ohio. Living with him were his wife Anna J. (36) and children Mary A. (9), Virginia L. (7), Francis M. (4 yrs 9 mos.), and Genevieve N. (1 yr 11 mos.). Only Mary attended school. Frank worked as poultry man. The family owned a radio set. The family name is spelled "Thomes" in the census index.


Anna Josephine Rudholzner

According to the 1930 census, Anna's mother and father were born in Germany.


Virginia Louise Tornes

Virginia Tornes never married. She was a registered nurse.


Anthony W. Tornes

In 1910, Anthony Tornes lived with his parents and siblings in Truro Twp., Franklin County, Ohio. He was employed as a traveling salesman for a manufacturing company.

On 2 Jun 1917, 28 year old Anthony W. Tornes of 141 E. Oakland Ave., Columbus, filled out a US military draft registration card. He stated that he was married, and gave his occupation as traveling salesman for the Columbus Manufacturing Co. Anthony gave his date and place of birth as July 17, 1888, in Churchtown, Ohio. He was described as being of medium height and stout build, with gray eyes and partially balding brown hair.

At the time of the 1920 census, Anthony W. Tornes (31) rented a home at 141 East Oakland Ave. in the 16th Ward of Columbus, Ohio. Living with him were his wife, Ada G. (32), and son William (9 mos.) The family also had a lodger, Oscar Levening (52). Anthony's occupation was commercial traveler in the shoe industry.

In 1930, Anthony W. Tornes (43), his wife Ada G. (44), and son William A. (10) owned a home in the 19th Ward of Columbus, Ohio. Anthony worked as a commercial traveler (?) for a shoe factory.

According to the census, Ada's parents were natives of Ohio.


William Anthony Tornes

William Tornes was a member of the graduating class of 1937 of North High School, Columbus, Ohio.


Clarence W. Tornes

Clarence Tornes did not live with his parents and siblings at the time of the 1910 census.

In 1920, 27 year old Clarence Tornes and his wife Mary (25) rented a farm in Truro Twp., Franklin County, Ohio. Living with them were their children, Margaret (3 yrs 9 mos.) and Howard (1 yr, 11 mos.).

The family has not been found in the 1930 census.

Dates of birth and death, from the Social Security Death Index, have not been proven.


Howard P. Tornes

Howard Tornes was married at the time of his death. His wife's name is not known.


Francis Alexander Tornes Jr.

On 16 Oct 1943, Frank A. Tornes, Jr. enlisted in the US Armed Forces in Columbus, Ohio. He was not married at the time.


Paulette Jouannic

Paulette Tornes' obituary was published in the Columbus Dispatch:
Paulette Tornes, age 78, of Columbus, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Thursday, March 4, 2004 at her residence. She was born in Paris, France to the late Henri and Simone (Doublet) Jouannic.
Survived by loving husband, Frank A. of 53 years; and loving son, Frank H. Tornes, both of Columbus; sister, Martine (Robert) Antoine of Paris, France; many nieces, nephews and other family members. The family would like to thank the staff of Mt. Carmel Hospice.
Family will receive friends Monday from 10-10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle, 2692 E. 5th Ave., Columbus with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Fr. Denis Kigozi officiating.
