Bertram E. Kost

By the time of the 1930 census, Bert E. Kost had married and moved to a suburb of Pittsburgh. Bert (35) and his wife, Hulda (26) owned a home worth $9,500 at 8016 St. Lawrence St. in Swissvale, Allegheny County, PA. Living with them were their children Huda S. (7), Lois J. (6), Bert E. Jr. (4 yrs 4 mos), Robert P. (1 yr 9 mos.) and Richard D. (less than 1 month old). The two oldest girls attended school. The children and their mother were all natives of Pennsylvania, Hulda's parents were German. Bert worked as a wholesale flour salesman. The family owned a radio set, as did most of their neighbors.

KOST, BERT EDWARD 78, of White Oak, died Wed., Jan.
21, 2004 at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. Born
August 14, 1925 in Wilkinsburg, PA a son of the late Bertram
E. and Hulda Wilhelmina Brueck Kost. He was a retired
Director of Government Contracts for Westinghouse Electric
Corporation. Mr. Kost served with the US Army during WW II
in the European Theatre Operation with the 95th Infantry
Division-377th Regiment Company B and received the
Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
He is survived by his wife Esther Whitehead Kost;
daughters, April L. Kost of Wilkins Twp., PA, Alison Kost
(husband, Clark Glymour) of O'Hara Twp., PA, Carol Kost
(husband, Bob Holmes) of White Oak, PA, Laurie Kost
Ratesic (husband, Dan) of Monroeville, PA, Lisa Kost
Nola (husband, Neal) of Monroeville, PA; grandchildren,
Holly and Madelyn Glymour, Kelsey and Abby Ratesic,
Carly, J.R. and Clayton Nola; sister Lois Forquer of Gaith-
ersburg, MD; brothers, Robert Kost of Kennedy Twp., PA,
Richard Kost of Monroeville, PA, Dr. Kenneth Kost of
Kittanning, PA; nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Friday 6-9 pm and Saturday
9 am until the hour of service at 10 am in the chapel of the
Jaycox-Jaworski Fuleral Home, Inc. 2703 O'Neil Boulevard,
McKeesport. The Rev. Cyndi Bloise will officiate.
Private interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, North
Versailles, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made
