In 1920, farmer Henry Warner (38) lived in Stock Twp., Noble County with his wife Minnie S. (34), and children Clyde (9), Raymon (8), Edna Rosa (7), Martha A. (4 yrs, 7 mos), and Gilbert A. (3 yrs, 4 mos). The oldest three children attended school.

The family still lived in Stock Twp. at the time of the 1930 census. The household consisted of Henry R. Warner (49), his wife Minne E. (45), and children Clyde J. (20), Raymond J. (18), Edna R. (17), Martha A. (14), Gilbert A. (12), Earl A. (10), Bernard A. (6), Joseph S. (3 yrs 10 mos.) and Alfred J. (1 yr 1 mo.). Only Martha, Gilbert and Earl attended school. The family did not own a radio set. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to John A. Sorg and Christian G. Schehl.

Henry F. Warner's obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on July 3, 1953. Typographical errors and lack of punctuation makes it difficult to determine the correct names of Henry's sons. SUCCUMBS TO HEART ATTACK CALDWELL, O. -- Henry F. Warner, 72, prominent retired

Philomena Eva Hohman

Records conflict: Rick Schoen and the 1910 census have Phelia Eva Hohman (b. 1885) married to Henry Francis Warner. Delores Snider has her married to John Ruppel. However, in 1920, at a time when John Ruppel and his wife already had three children, Minnie was still married to Henry Warner.

In 1900, 14 year old Philia Hohman lived on her parents farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. She did not attend school that year.

Joseph Michael Hohman

Alternate date of birth: 1 Apr 1819 (Kaib). Source for middle name: newspaper article about brothe Magnus.

Joseph Hohman arrived in Baltimore on 6 Jul 1835 on the Brig Ulysses, from Bremen. Family legend says that he travelled as a stowaway. He is included on the passenger list as follows:
Joh. hohman Mittlekalbach Sheperd 50
Anna Maria " 49
Sebastian 10

He moved to Enoch Township (then part of Monroe Co., later part of Noble Co.) Ohio from Wheeling in 1837. He became a naturalized citizen.

At the time of the 1850 census, 31 year old farmer Joseph "Hammond" lived in Enoch Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with his 30 year old wife Barbary and their four children: Ann M. (7), Mary A. (6), Sebastian (4), and Morris (2). None of the children attended school. Joseph's farm was valued at $800. The adjacent farms in the census belonged to John Yager and Jacob Schott (Joseph Hohman's brother-in-law).

In 1860, 38 year old farmer Joseph Hohman lived in Enoch Twp., Noble Co., Ohio with his 38 year old wife Barbara. Both were born in Hesse. Living with them were their children Margaret (18), Mary A. (17), Sebastian (14), Morris (13), Louisa (10), Barbara (8) and Frances (4). The children were all born in Ohio, and all except the oldest two attended school. Neighboring farms in the census were those of Joseph Hohman's brother-in-law Nicholas (Michael) Blake and Joseph's brother Maurice Hohman.

At the time of the 1870 census, Joseph Hohman (52) was still living in Enoch Twp. with his wife Mary B. (51) and children Morris (22), Louisa (19), Barbara (17), Frances (13) and Magnus C. (10). Only Magnus attended school. All the children were born in Ohio. Adjacent households in the census were those the widow Mary Schaub Lori (Joseph Hohman's future wife), and (Joseph) William Johanning.

Three of Joseph Hohman's daughters, -- Louisa C., Anna B., and Francesca M. -- married three Ruppel brothers, -- Louis, Charles, and Ignatz, respectively. They were the sons of Peter and Margaret Ruppel.

In 1880, Joseph Hohman (60) lived in Enoch Twp. with his second wife, Mary (42). With them lived their son Philip (1 month), along with Mary's four sons from her first marriage: John Lori (23) Henry Lori (21), George Lori (19) and Joseph Lori (17). None of Joseph's children from his first marriage lived with him. Only Joseph Lori attended shcool. Adjacent households in the census are those of Josph's son (John) Morris Hohman, and elderly widower John Miller.

In 1900, 80 year old Joseph Hohman lived in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 60 year old second wife, Mary, and their two children, Philip (20) and Philia (14).

Joseph Hohman is listed as living with his youngest son Philip (by his second wife) at the time of the 1910 census.

From death certificate:
Name: Joseph Hohmann
Age: 92 years 3 months 9 days
Birth: 03 Mar 1819, Germany

Maria Schaub

In 1870, Mary Lori (31) lived on a farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with children John J. (13), Henry John (12), George (10), and Joseph (8). The three oldest boys attended school. Mary, who was born in Virginia, could not read or write. Also living in the house was Mary's mother, Mary Schoup (69). Adjacent farms in the census were those of Joseph Hohman and Michael ("John") Blake. Joseph Hohman's wife died in 1873, and Mary Schaub Lori married him four years later.

Records conflict on place of birth:

In the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census, Mary's birthplace is listed as (West) Virginia. According to the 1900 census, Mary Schaub Hohman was born in May 1840 in Germany. She came to America in 1848, when she was about eight years old. This conflicts with Dale Schott's book, which states that Mary's parents arrived in America in July 1838. "St. Mary's -- 150 Years -- Fulda, OH", states that she was born in 1838. The 1910 census entry for Maria's son, John Lorey states that his mother was born at sea, as do the 1900, 1920 and 1930 census entries for her son Joseph Lorey.

The 1900 census also states that Mary had no children. (There is a 0 in the column for "Mother of how many children?") Mary spoke English, but could not read or write.
