Adam V. Heil

In 1910, Adam Heil (35) rented part of a multi-family dwelling at 535 Washington St. in Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He lived there with his wife, Dora (32) and their children Katherine (10), Louis (8), Charles (4) and Romaine (2). "Romaine" is incorrectly identified as a daughter. Catherine and Louis attended school. Adam was employed as a teamser (wagon driver) for an ice company.

In 1920, 46 year old Adam Heil lived with his wife Dora (42) in a home they rented at 533 Cherry Way in Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Living with them were their children Louis (18), Charles (15), Tom (6) and Ann (2). Only Charles attended school. Adam worked as a driver for (Daniel?) Ice Company, Louis as a laborer in a steel mill and Charles as a laborer in a glass house. Adam and his parents were born in Ohio, the remainder of the household were born in Pennsylvania as were Dora's parents. Living nerby was Fulda native Catherine Burkhardt, wife of Elis (Alex) Burkhart.

In 1930, 56 year old Adam Heil lived with his wife Dora (54) in a home they rented at 306 5th Street in Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Living with them were their children Louis (29), Charles (24), Tom (16) and Anna (12). Also living witht hem was their daughter-in-law Agnes Heil, Charles' wife of less than 1 year. Thomas and Anna attended school. Adam, Louis and Charles were all employed as laborers in a steel mill. Adam and his parents were born in Ohio, the remainder of the household were born in Pennsylvania as were Dora's father. Dora's mother was born in France. The family did not own a radio.


Dorothea Schweinberg

In 1910, all four of Dora Schweinberg Heil's children were living.

In the 1920's Dora's nephew Cyril Schweinberg was engaged to marry Mabel Spangler, who was not Catholic. Dora was the driving force in discouraging the marriage. Cyril never married.

Records conflict on date of death. Jean Boulter of Braddock Catholic Cemetery in the 1980s found a record for Dorothy Heil with a date of death of 14 Oct 1925. However, Dora appears in the 1930 census with her husband and children.


Roman Heil

Roman died as a boy in an accident involving a horse-drawn ice truck. His father was the driver of the ice wagon.


John Edward Schweinberg

In 1900, 20 year old John "Schurmberger" lived with his parents and younger siblings at the family home at 417 Verona Ave., Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. John worked as a teamster.


Alice Celia Schweinberg

Alice never married. SS#: 211-36-7339 issued in PA in 1963.


Anna Leona Schweinberg

Lived in an appartment on Middle St. in Braddock. No children.


Albert Joseph Schweinberg

Identified as "Alford" in the 1900 census. Al Schweinberg was a Councilman in N. Braddock. He was employed by Carnegie Illinois Steel, and later as an insurance agent for Prudential. He died of a stroke.


Winifred May James

Winifred was a housewife. She died of a heart attack and stroke. Winifred was not a Catholic.

Robert Alva Schweinberg

Robert was a senior in North Braddock High School when he drowned in a boating accident in the Monongehela River. The following account of the accident was published on the font page of the Monessen [PA] Daily Independent on 2 Sep 1931.

YOUTH DROWNS
by United Press
Braddock, Pa., Sept 2. -- A youth was drowned and three others narrowly
escaped drowning when their home-made sail boat was caught in a gust
of wind and capsized in the Monogahela river. Robert Schweinberger (sic),
17, North Braddock, and Timothy O'Shea, 28, Braddock, tried to swin to
shore while O'Shea's father, John, 52, and Cecil Hodder, co-builder of the
craft, clung to the boat. Schweinberg sank before reaching shore and the
others were rescued by men in a rowboat.

Cecil Hodder married Robert Schwienberg's sister, Winifred Schweinberg.


Emma Hannah Schweinberg

Emma was a junior in North Braddock High School at the time of her death of rheumatic heart disease.

Amelia Margaret Schweinberg

In 1920, widow Maud Brown (24) and her son Thos. (2) lived with Maud's widowed mother, Anna Schweinberg in the family home at 417 Verona St. in Braddock, PA. Also living in the house were Maud's unmarried brother, Fred, and the family of her sister, Carrie Meehan. Maud was employed as a housekeeper.

Also living in the house were Maud's unmarried brother, Fred, and the family of her sister, Carrie Meehan. Maud was employed as a housekeeper.


Thomas J. Meehan

In 1920, Thomas and Carrie Meehan and their 8-month-old daughter Alvira lived with Carrie's widowed mother, Anna Schweinberg at the family home at 417 Verona St., Braddock. Also living in the home were Carrie's unmarried brother, Fred, and her widowed sister, Maud. Thomas Meehan was employed as a foreman for a manufacturing company. Thomas' place of birth in the census record is illegible. (Everyone else in the household was clearly born in Pennsylvania... Thomas's place of birth looks like it was overwritten.) His parents were natives of Ireland.

In 1930, Thomas and Carrie Meehan owned a home worth $3000 at 140 Comrie Ave. in Braddock where they lived with their children Elvira (10), Thomas Jr. (8), Betty J. (6), and Patsy L. (3 yrs 9 mos). Everyone in the household was born in Pennsylvania. Thomas, who was a veteran of the World War, worked as a labor foreman in a steel mill. The family owned a radio set.


Frederick Mathieu Schweinberg

Fred frequently appeared in plays put on by the church at Carnegie Hall in North Braddock. He was a handsome man who was a good actor.

In 1920, Fred lived at 417 Verona Ave. in Braddock with his widowed mother Anna, and his two sisters: Maud Brown and Carrie Meehan and their families. Fred worked as a draftsman for H. Koppler, according to the census.

In 1930, Fred (33) and Eleanor (27) Schweinberg owned a home worht $10,000 at 2710 Espy Avenue, Dormont, Allegheny Co., PA. They lived there with their children Fred (6) and Audrey (3 yrs, 8 mos). At that time, Fred was employed as a clerk in a coal and coke company.

Fred worked as an design engineer at Koppers Company in Pittsburgh. Koppers made coke ovens for the steel manufacturing process. During the Depression he was transferred to Brooklyn where he lived near his cousin, Edward L. Schweinberg.


Raymond Joseph Schweinberg

On 12 Sep 1918, 18 year old Joseph Raymond Schweinberg filled out a US military draft registration card. He gave his address as 441 John, Braddock, Allegheny County, Pa. His birth date was recorded as Feb. 13, 1900. Joseph worked as a clerk at the Carnegie Steel Co. in Braddock. His nearest relative was Margaret Schweinberg of the same address. He was described as being of medium height and slender build, with brown hair, brown eyes and no physical disabilities.

Ray and his first wife married very young, and were divorced after only a few years.
