Catharine Schmitt

Catherine Johanning, a widow, lived with her daughter and son in law (Frank and Dora Hill) at the time of the 1900, 1910 and 1930 census. Records conflict on her place of birth: (West) Virginia (1900 census) vs. Ohio (1870, 1880, 1910 and 1930 census). There is also disagreement about the year of birth: 1841 (1900 census) vs. 1842 (obituary, Snider). The 1870 census states that Katharina Schmitt Johanning's parents were foreign-born, but the 1880 census indicates that they were born in West Virginia, and the 1930 census states they were born in Germany.

Catherine Schmitt Johanning's obituary appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on December 26, 1934.
