Joseph Albert Crum

On May 29, 1917, 22 year old unmarried Joseph Albert Crum (dob Nov. 22, 1894, pob Noble Co., Ohio) of RFD 2, Summerfield, Ohio registered for the military draft. According to his draft registration card he worked as a street car conductor for the Detroit United Railway of Detroit. His physical description is given as medium height and build; light brown eyes; and dark brown hair.

In 1920, 25 year old, unmarried, Joseph A. Crum, lived as a lodger in the home of Meredith Rutherford at 779 Roselawn Ave. in Akron (Ward 6), Ohio. Joseph worked as a rubber worker, he and his parents were born in Ohio.

At the time of the 1930 census, 35 year old Joseph A. Crum and his wife Pluma M. (31) owned a farm on Canton-Dover Road worth $1000 in Sandyville, Tuscarawas County, Ohio where they lived with their two sons, Cletus J. (7) and Joseph F. (3 years 9 mos.). Cletus attended school. Everyone in the household was born in Ohio, as were their parents. According to the census, Cletus and Pluma were married in 1920. The family did not own a radio set.

On April 26, 1942, self employed farmer Joseph Albert Crum (47; dob: November 22, 1894; pob: Noble [Co.], Ohio) of RFD#1, Mineral City, Sandy Twp., Tuscarawas Co., Ohio registered for the military draft. His draft registration card lists Mrs. Pluma Crum, RFD#1, Mineral City, Ohio as the person who will always know his address. His physical description is given as height: 5'6"; weight: 200#; eyes: blue; hair: gray; complexion: light.

In 1943, Joseph A. Crum lived in Mineral Spings, Tuscarawas Co., OH. He was still a resident of Tuscarawas County at the time of his death.

at the time of her death.


Albert Adam Blake

On June 5, 1918, 21 year old Albert Adam Blake (dob Feb 3, 1897) of Rt 2, Dexter City, Ohio registered for the milirary draft. According to his draft registration card, he was born in Noble Co., Ohio. His nearest relative is listed as Joseph Blake of Rt 2, Dexter City, Ohio who is also listed as his employer. His physical description is given as medium height and build, with blue eyes and light brown hair.

In 1930, 33 year old farmer Albert Blake and his wife Lauretta (31) owned a farm (value $1000) in Enoch Twp., Noble Co., Ohio. Based on census data, they had been married for 10 years. Living with them were their children Flroence (8) and Paul 2 yrs 10 mos). Florence attended school. All members of the household were born in Ohio as were Albert's and Loretta's parents. The family did not own a radio.

On April 27, 1942, self employed farmer Albert Adam Blake (45; dob: February 3, 1897; pob: Noble County, Ohio) of RFD4, Caldwell, Noble Co., Ohio registered for the military draft. His draft registrtion card lists Loretta Blake of RFD4,Caldwell, Ohio as the person who will always know his address. His physical description is given as height: 5'8"; weight: 165#; eyes: blue; hair: brown; complexion: ruddy.


Obituary:
Albert A. Blake, age 77, of 1301 W. Main St. Louisville passed away Thursday morning
[16 May 1974] at his home following a short illness. Born in Caldwell, O. to the late Joseph
and Teresa Mehler Blake, he lived in the Louisville area 28 years.
A retired Macomber Inc employee, he worked in plant service for 7 years, retiring in 1967.
He also worked for many years at the old Superior Sheet Steel Co. of Louisville and was a
member of St. Louis Catholic Church of Louisville.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta P. (Crum) of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Bernard
(Florence) Archer and Mrs. Thomas (Esther) Menegay both of Louisville; one son, Paul Blake
of Louisville; two sisters, Gertrude Blake and Sophia Blake, both of Louisville, also 9 grand-
children.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held was held Saturday at 10 AM in St. Louis Catholic Church
with burial in the church cemetery. Friends called at the Paquelet Funeral Home Friday from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 PM


Loretta Philomena Crum

Obituary:
Mrs. Loretta P. Blake, age 90, formerly of 1301 Main St., Louisville,
passed away Wednesday April 26 [1989] at St. Joseph Hospice following a
short illness. Born in Fulda, Ohio, Noble Co., to the late John and Matilda
Noll Crum, she lived in Louisville 44 years. She was a member of St. Louis
Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar and Rosary Society.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Florence) Archer
and Mrs. Thomas (Esther) Menegay, both of Louisville, one son, Paul A.
Blake of Louisville; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters,
Mrs. Matilda Brahler of Columbus and Mrs. Cecilia Nau of Canton; one brother,
Anthony Crum of Canton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert A.
Blake in 1974, four brothers - Otto, Martin, Francis, and Joseph Crum, and one
sister Clara.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Louis
Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Calling hours were at the
Paquelet Funeral Home on Friday. St. Ann’s Altar and Rosary services were
also on Friday.


Elenora Teresa Blake

Name on death certificate: Ellnor Treacy Blake. "Tresy" and variant names were typically short for Theresa.


Andrew Bernard Crum

The family has not been found in the 1930 US census index for Ohio, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia. Andrew Crum was living in Canton in 1943, according to the obituary of his sister Clara Crum Yinger. The obituary identifies him as Anthony Crum.


Joseph Crum

The following article appeared on pg 2 of The Zanesville Times Recorder on 24 Dec 1938
CRUM BOY KILLED BY CANTON TRUCK
SUMMERFIELD -- Mr. and Mrs. John Crum, Berne, were notified that their
grandson was struck by a truck at Canton Thursday [22 Dec 1938] and died while
enroute to the hospital.
Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Crum, and a brother and sister
of the home. Funeral services took place today at Canton.

Joseph Crum's death certificate indicates that a truck backed up over him near his home on Milton Ct. NW in Canton. He died at about 12:50 p.m.


Joseph R. Nau

The following appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on May 5, 1936: Joe Nau, of near Fulda, brother of Mrs. Clarence Miller,
Caldwell, was removed Saturday to Good Samaritan hospital
in Zanesville, where she (sic) will be under observation and
treatment. His sister, Miss Cecelia Nau, registered nurse, is
assisting in the care of Mr. Nau.


Obituary:
Joseph R. Nau, age 82, 3028 Georgetown St. NE,
Canton, Ohio passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6 [1991] Bethany
Nursing Center following a long illness. Born in Noble County,
Ohio, Aug. 15, 1909, he lived in Stark County 55 years. He was
an auto dealer and auto repair manager for 45 years and a member
of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Cecelia (Blake) (sic: Crum)
Nau of the home; four sons, David and Paul of Canton, William
of Robertsville, and James of Van Nuys, CA; three daughters,
Mrs. Paul (Joan) Romanowski of Tucson, AZ, Mrs. Harvey
(Agatha) Jones and Mrs. Gerald (Barbara) Mackson, both of
Louisville; 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, one sister,
Marie Schell of Caldwell, Ohio. He was preceded in death by one
son, two daughters, five sisters and one brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at 9:30
a.m. in St. Benedict’s Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery.
Calling hours were at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Friday.

Cecilia Sophia Crum

The following wedding announcement appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on October 25, 1931 wiht a picture of the bride..
A PRETTY wedding of autumn took place at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning Sept. 22 when Miss Cecelia Crum became the bride of Joseph Nau at the St. Michael's church, Berne, with Rev. Anthony Tague, pastor, officiating.
The bride is the daughter of John Crum and is popular with a wide circle of friends. Mr. Nau is the son of Adam Nau and is a farmer. He and his bride will reside at Berne.


Cecilia Crum Nau's obituary appeared in the Canton Repositiory on 17 Dec 2008:

Cecelia Sophia Nau, loving mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, passed away Monday, December 15, 2008 in Aultman Hospital following a recent illness. Cecelia was born August 13, 1910 on a farm near Carlisle, Ohio to the late John and Matilda (Noll) Crum. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Canton. Cecelia spent her life nurturing and raising her family. They were the most important thing in her life and she always cherished the time they spent together.
Cecelia is survived by seven children, James J. Nau of Palm Springs, CA, William A. Nau of Robertsville, Joan M. Romanoski of Vale, AZ, Agatha M. Jones of Louisville, Barbara A. Macksyn of Louisville, David J. Nau of Canton and Paul R. Nau of Louisville; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Nau who passed away November 13, 1991; and siblings, Martin J. Crum, Joseph A. Crum, Clara M. Yinger, Loretta P. Blake, Francis L. Crum, Anthony Crum, Tillie Brahler and Otto Crum.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Benedict Catholic Church in Canton with Rev. Fr. Benson Okpara officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Cecelia's family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church. Arrangements are at the direction of the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home of Louisville.

NAU INFANT
Services were held at 10 this Thursday in St. Louis
Catholic Church for the three month old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Nau who died Tuesday in the home near Fairhope.
Interment was made in the parish cemetery with the Paquelet
parlors in charge. Also surviving are two brothers, James and
William; two sisters, Joan and Agatha; and three grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Adam Nau and Mrs. Matilda Crum of Noble
county.

In 1900, 29 year old farmer William Coleman lived on a farm that he owned in Stock Twp, Noble County, Ohio with his 24 year old wife Ann and their three children: Clifford (6), Mary (3), and Pluma (1). William and Ann could read and write English.

At the time of the 1910 census, farmer William Kullman (35) and his wife Amy (36) lived in Stock Twp. with their chilren Clifford (15), Alice (13), and Pluma (11).

In 1920, Wm. Kullman still owned a farm in Stock Twp. where he lived with his second wife, Josephine, his daughters, Mary A. (22) and Pluma (20). The adjacent farm in the census belonged to W. E. Archer.

In 1930, William (59) and Josephine (48) Kullman lived alone on their farm in Stock Twp. Neighboring farms belonged to Beda Hill and Adam Warner.

In 1930, Walter Yinger (38) lived in a home owned by his 75 year old mother Anna Yinger at 1211 Hall Avenue in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. Living with them were Walter's wife, his wife Clara M. (32), and their children Walter J. (2 yrs 4 mos) and Raphael (9 months). Walter was employed as a laborer laying floor and wall tile.

Obituary:
Walter J. Yinger, 59, of 1102 Military road, a former
employe of Hazel Atlas glass plant No. 2, died at 9:30 o’clock
last night [29 Jul 1951] after a lingering illness.
Ill health forced Mr. Yinger’s retirement.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic church
and the Holy Name Purgatorial societies. He was also a
member of the Zanesville Eagles lodge and VFW post.
Surviving are three sons, Walter Jr. of the U.S. Army
in Frankfort, Germany, Raphael also of the U.S. Army and
Bernard of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Bernadetta Hutchison
of the home, and two brothers, Laurence of the Adamsville
road and Florian of Los Angeles.
The body was removed to the Hillis funeral home.


Joseph F. Yinger

There is no direct evidence at this time to prove that Joseph Yinger is the same person as Joseph Younger, son of John Younger. Further research needs to be done to establish a definite connection.

The Zanesville, Ohio 1890-1891 city directory lists a laborer named Joseph Yinger living at "n. s. Adamsville road, 1street e. of Thomas"

In 1900, Joseph (44) and Anna (45) Yinger owned a home Washington Twp., Muskingum Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children Walter J. (8), Lawrence (5) and Florien (3). All members of the household were born in Ohio.

In 1910, Joseph Yinger (53) and his wife Anna (55) still owned a home in Washington Twp. Also living in the household were their three sons, Walter J. (18), Lawrence (15) and Florian (13). All three boys attended school. Joseph was employed as a blast furnace engineer.

At the time of the 1920 census, Joseph (63) and Anna (64) Yinger and their son Walter (27) were renters in the home of widow Katherine Knellman (60) at 988 Malinda St. in the 3rd ward of Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. Everyone in the house was a native of Ohio; Ralph and Anna's parents were German. Joseph worked as a laborer in a brewery. Walter worked as a self-employed wallpaper hanger.

Joseph was "a bit of a roamer" and was not living in the household at the time of the 1930 census. He may have been in Oklahoma.


Anna Millfield

In 1930, 75 year old widow Anna Yinger owned a home worth $2800 at 1211 Hall Avenue in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. Living with her were her son, Walter (38), his wife Clara M. (32), and their children Walter J. (2 yrs 4 mos) and Raphael (9 months). Anna's parents were born in Germany.

MRS. ANNA YINGER
Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Yinger, 89, of Adams-
ville road, who died Saturday at good Samaritan hospital
following a few weeks' illness, will be held at 8:30 o'clock
Monday morning at the St. Nicholas church. Burial will
be in Mt. Olives. The body was removed to the Raymond
Seat funeral home and will remain there until time for
the service.
She was a member of the St. Nicholas Catholic church
and of the Purgatorial society.
She is survived by three sons, Lawrence Yinger of
Adamsville road with who she made her home; Walter
J. Yinger, of Frazeysburg road and F. F. Yinger of Los
Angeles; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren
and a number of nieces and nephews. Her husband,
Joseph F., died 12 years ago.
