John L. Noll Jr.

At the time of the 1850 census, 22 year old blacksmith John Noll lived in the household of blacksmith Peter Slay in Miltonsburg, Malaga Twp., Monroe County, Ohio.

John Noll was the first blacksmith in Fulda. In 1860, 40 year old blacksmith John Noll lived in Enoch Twp., Noble Co., Ohio with his 40 year old wife Barbay and their six year old son, John. The birthplace for both John and his wife is listed as "Byron." (The census is legible, this is a reference to Bayern/Bavaria.) The adjacent farms in the census belonged to Adam Hartman and Rev. John W. Bruemmer, the parish priest.

At the time of the 1870 census, blacksmith John Noll (44) lived in Fulda, Enoch Twp. with his wife Barbara (50) and son John Jr. (17). John Jr., who attended school that year, was born in Ohio; his parents in Bavaria. Neighboring households in the census belonged to Charles Lang (administrator of the Catholic school in Fulda) and Adam Schafer. The Noll family was listed two households away from the parish rectory.

In 1880, John (53) and Barbara (60) Noll lived alone in Enoch Twp. Both were born in Bavaria. Adjacent households in the census were those of widow Barbara (Scheetz) Huffman and John's son, John L. Noll Jr.

The following note appeared in the Caldwell Citizens' Press on 25 Oct 1883:
Mr. John Noll and wife returned home
from a visit in Monroe county last Saturday.
There were two married men named John Noll living in the Fulda area in 1883; they were father and son. It is not known which one this note refers to. A third John Noll -- father and grandfather of the two men in Noble County -- lived in Monroe County in 1883.

From the 19 Jun 1884 Caldwell Citizens' Press:
G. C. Ehlerman took in over 15,000 pounds of will last Friday and Saturday.
He also bought himself a fine span of three year old mares, one from John L.
Noll for $140 and one from John G. Hupp for $150.

On 5 Jul 1883, the Caldwell Citizens' Press contained reported:
John L. Noll is building a new dwelling house for his father.

In 1886, John Noll owned one of two blacksmith shops in Fulda. The other was owned by John Brahler.

According to Delores Snider, John and Barbara Noll moved to Perry Co., OH. In 1900, 72 year old John Noll livred in the household of his married son, John. According to the census the elder John Noll came to America in 1847 and was naturalized five years later.

In 1910, 82 year old widower John Noll still lived with his son. His birthplace was listed as Pennsylvania, so his year of immigration was not recorded.

Marian Margaret Noll

Delores Snider records the birth, christening, and burial of Marian Margaret Noll. She also notes that the parents -- John and Barbara Noll -- moved to Perry Co., OH. Althoiugh no date of death is recorded, it seems possible that Marian Margaret Noll died in childhood. She did not appear in the 1860 census.

John Noll Sr.

It is not known what the relationship (if any) is between John Noll (1794-1884) and the descendants of Anselm Noll (1796-1865). Sources conflict on year of John Noll's birth
abt 1792 -- 1860 census
abt 1797 -- 1870 census
abt 1796 -- 1880 census
abt 1794 -- obituary

There are five John Nolls in the 1850 census in Monroe County... three on the same page in adjacent households in Bearsville Twp. Their ages do not match this John Noll... they are 4, 22, 29, 33 and 64 years old. This John Noll would have been about 56 years old.

At the time of the 1860 and 1870 census, John Noll lived and worked on the farm of his son-in-law, John Huth, in Malaga Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. The two censuses recorded his age as 68 and 73, respectively.

In 1880, widower John Null, age 84, lived in the household of his daughter's family, Margret Noll Huth, in Sunsbury, Monroe County, Ohio. All the adults in the household were listed as being born in Michelburg.

Obituary:
On June 11th, John Noll Sr., the father of John Noll, a blackmith here,
and the grand-father of John L. Knoll, Miss Stella Nelson, and Mrs. Adam
Rausch, died at the residence of his son-in-law, John Huth, of Ozart, Monroe
county Ohio, age about 90 years. Mr. John Noll, John L. Noll, Adam Rausch,
and Miss Stella Nelson attended the funeral of John Noll Sr., heretofore
mentioned.

Martha Walter

Although "marital status" was not a question in the 1860 census, 63 year old John Noll lived in the household of his married daughter, Margaret Noll Huth. The absence of his wife suggests that John may have been a widower at that time.

Genevieve C. Noll

Widow Genevieve Noll Bennett resided in Perry County at the time of her death.
