Richard Charles Steigerwald

Richard C. Steigerwald's obituary appeared in The Canton (OH) Respository newspaper on October 1, 2007 Richard (Dick) C. Steigerwald, age 76, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly in his residence Friday, September 28, 2007. He was born in Canton on November 3, 1930, the son of the late Charles and Alice (Mohn) Steigerwald. He was a life member of St. John Catholic Church, a graduate of Lehman High School, class of 1949 and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He retired from the Ford Motor Company as a tool & die maker. He enjoyed country music, guitar playing, hunting, and home projects.
He is survived by brother, John (Jack) Steigerwald and his wife, Mary Ann of North Canton; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, June and Al Melleragno of Miami Springs, FL, Alma and Joe Miller of Lamy, NM, Rita Steigerwald of Canton; and his dear friend, Lucille Smithberger and her family of Navarre.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. John Catholic Church with Fr. Ronald M. Klingler as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. John Elwood Smithberger

MANSFIELD -- John Elwood Smithberger Sr., 73, of Lexington
Avenue, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at SCCI Hospital of Mansfield
after a sudden illness.

John was born Sept. 11, 1932, in Marr, Ohio, to Earl and Clara
Smithberger, who preceded him in death. He was married to his
soulmate, Frances Miller Smithberger, on Nov. 17, 1956, in Angola,
Indiana.

He was an Army Private and served over three years, when he
was honorably discharged after his duty in Korea. He was awarded
medals for National Defense Service, Korean Service, United
Nations Service, Heroic Achievement and the Purple Heart Medal.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Miller Smithberger; daughter
and son-in-law, Sue and Marty Lewis; daughter and son-in-law,
Bonnie Cains and Robert Hardin; son, Jake Smithberger; daughter
and son-in-law, Kathy and Ahab Cates; 25 grandchildren; and 17
great-grandchildren, all of Mansfield. Also surviving are his brother,
Bernard Smithberger of Mansfield; three sisters, Lucille Smith-
berger, Eileen Kaiser and Mary Idler, all of Navarre; and many
nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death two sisters, Ada and Dorothy Smith-
berger; and three grandchildren, June and Leonard Cains and
Robert Hardin Jr.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He was loved dearly and will be missed greatly.

Friends may call at Herlihy-Tinsman Funeral Home, 173 Park
Avenue West, 10-11 a.m. Thursday with funeral services at 11
a.m., conducted by Pastor Joe Esary. Interment will be in Mansfield
Cemetery Veterans Honor Grounds with military services conducted
by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
