Annie Kramer

Annie is not listed with the family the 1880 census. She would have been about 11 years old.


Charles Peter Maurer

Charles P. Maurer was a coal miner according to his daughter Mary Ellen (Sister Eugenia).

In 1910, 33 year old Charles Maurer lived with his wife of 6 years, Annie (37) in part of a home they rented at 221 Camp Ave. in Braddock, Allegheny Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children Mary (5), Joseph (3) and Charles (1 yr 2 mos). Charles worked as a teamster on an oil wagon. According to the census, Charles and his mother were born in Ohio; Annie and her mother were born in Pennsylvania; both Charles' and Annie's fathers were born in France; and the children were born in Pennsylvania. Living next door was Annie's parents Joseph and Mary Schweinberg and Annie's brothers Edward and James. According to the census, Annie had given birth to 3 children all of whom were still living.

In 1920, Chas. Maurer (42) and his wife Annie (46) rented a home at 413 Verona St. in Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Living with them were their children Mary (14), Joseph (12) Charles (10), Anna (8), and Loretta (6). All of the children attended school. Charles was employed as a driver for a grocery store. Two doors down lived Annie Schweinberg Maurer's aunt, Annie Matthieu Schweinberg. Charles' father was born in Germany. His mother was a native of Ohio.

At the time of the 1930 census, 53 year old Charles Maurer lived with his wife Annie (56) in a rented home (rent $35) at 920 Braddock Ave., Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Based on census data, they had been married for about 26 years. Living with them were their children Joseph (23), Charles (21) and Anna (19). Charles was a self employed paper hanger, Joseph worked in a furniture store, Charles as a weigh master in a steel mill and Anna as a telephone operator. The family did not own a radio.


According to McAdams, the gravestone of Charles P. Maurer contains three names:
Charles P. Maurer Father 1877 - 1969
Annie E. McDowell Maurer Mother 1873 - 1955
Charles F. Maurer Sos 1909 - 1972

It is not known why the name "McDowell"" is on the tombstone, since the dates of birth and death match those of Annie Schweinberg Maurer, not those of her daughter, Ann Maurer McDowell.


Anna Elizabeth Schweinberg

From "The Schweinberg Story":
Only daughter, proud of her seven brothers.
Helped her father to plan a successful business.
Solicitous about her husband and five children.

In 1900, 27 year old Anna Schweinberg lived with her parents and younger siblings at 135 Camp Ave. in Braddock, PA. She was not employed outside the home.

Charles Francis Maurer

In 1930, Charles lived with his parents and siblings in Braddock, PA. He was employed as a weigh master in a steel mill. Later, Charles Maurer wirked as a Supervisor in inventory control at Homestead Steel. He never married.


William F. Schweinberg

William Schweinberg had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. He and Susan Hogg eloped and were married in Lorain, OH. William used to joke that the headlines read "Schwein runs away with a Hogg." (There is no evidence to indicate that any such story ever appeared in the local paper.) William was a jovial man with a heary belly laugh who loved children. He was a skilled mason.

In 1900, William Schweinberg (23) rented a home at 135 Mills St. Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He lived there with his wife of one year, Susan (20) and their infant son Leo F. William worked as a day laborer in a steel mill. His brother Louis lived two doors away.

In 1910, 33 year old William F. Schweinberg lived with his wife of 12 years, Susan (30) in an unnumbered mortgaged home on North Holland Ave. in Rankin, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Living with them were their children Leo (9), Mary E. (8), William C. (7), Edward S. (6), and Aelred (3). The 3 older children attended school. William worked as a laborer in a steel mill. According to the census, William was born in Pennsylvania and his parents in Germany; Susan and her parents were born in Scotland; and all of the children were born in Pennsylvania. According to the census, Susan immigrated to the United Sates in 1888. Susan had given birth to 5 children all of whom were still living.

On 12 Sep 1918, 40 year old William Schweinberg of 318 North Holland St. in Rankin filled out a US draft registration card. He gave his birth date as 13 Feb 1878. His nearest relative was his wife, Susan Schweinberg, of the same address. William was employed as brick layer for American Steel and Wire Co., Rankin Works in Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. William was described as being of medium height and slender build, with brown eyes and black hair, and no physical disabilities. When filling out his name, William drew a horizontal line where the form asked for his middle initial, suggesting that he had no middle name.


Susan Hogg

Susan Hogg Schweinberg converted to Catholicism. Records conflict on place of birth:
