Sarah E. Boyd

Sarah's obituary appeared on the website of the McVay-Perkins Funeral Home in Caldwell, Ohio:
Sarah E. McAtee, age 91, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Sunday,
April 9, 2006, at Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell.
She was born November 17, 1914, in Elba, Ohio, daughter
of the late Joseph and Blanche Marsh Boyd. She was formerly
employed as a licensed practical nurse for Summit Acres
Nursing Home. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her
husband, Clyde McAtee, who died June 17, 1976; one son,
Franklin Hupp, who died in June, 2005; an infant daughter,
Mary Celesta McAtee; and one sister, Frances Shilling. Surviving are two daughters, Pearl McKnight of Massillon
and Mrs. Ernest (Marilyn) Ball of Canton; one son, William
(Jeanne) Hupp of Caldwell; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-
grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces
and nephews. Friends may call Friday, April 14, 2006, from 2-4 and 6-8PM
at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where the service
will be Saturday, April 15 at 11AM with Pastor Loran Dace
officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery, Caldwell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Caldwell Volun-
teer Fire Department - 215 West Street - Caldwell, Ohio 43724

Theodore Muth

Theodore Muth was not listed in the 1880 census with his wife and children. According to the census, the children's father was born in Hesse Cassel.

At the time of the 1880 census, there was a 31 year old farmer named Theo Muth who was a prisoner in the Ohio State Penitentiary in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. Unlike most of the inmates, Theo Muth was married. Theo and his parents were natives of Prussia. The census does not state what crime he committed.

According to records at St. Mary's in Fulda, the family moved to Pittsburgh, PA in 1881.


Elizabeth Musher

The one-year old daughter of John and Catherine Musher/Mercer is named Catherine in the 1860 census.

In 1880, 23 year old married "Elizabeth Moot" lived with her two children in the home of her parents, John and Catherine Musher in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. The children -- John (2) and Magie (1) -- were both born in Ohio. Their father was born in Hesse Cassel. Elizabeth's husband was not listed in the household.


John Magnus Musher Jr.

In 1880, John Musher Jr. lived and worked on his parents' farm in Enoch Twp., Noble Co., Ohio. He attended school that year.

In 1910, John Musher (48) rented a home at 1633 Howard St. in the 24th Ward in Pittsburgh, PA. Living with him were his wife, Anna (43) and their eight surviving children: Lavina (18), George (17), Cornelius (15), Genevieve (14), Ambrose (11), Lawrence (5), Germaine (3), and Jerome (2). Only Genevieve and Ambrose attended school. (A ninth child, Cleophas, died at age 2 in 1903.) The Musher's tenth child, John Musher III, was born a few days after the census taker visited the home. Also living in the household was John's unmarried brother, Jerry (47). John and his brother both worked as laborers in a rolling mill. The oldest three children were also employed outside the home. John and Anna had been married for 20 years.


Anna Philomena Killmeyer

According to the 1910 census, both of Anna's parents were born in Pennsylvania.


Lavina Catherine Musher

In 1910, Lavina Musher lived with her parents and younger siblings in the family's home in Pittsburgh, PA. Lavina worked as a sales lady in a department store.


Gregory John Musher

In 1910, "George" Musher (17) lived with his parents and siblings in Pittsburgh, PA. He worked as a laborer in a machine shop.


Cornelius John Musher

In 1910, 15 year old Corneilus Musher lived with his parents and siblings in Pittsburgh, PA. He did not attend school that year. He was employed as an errand boy in a factory.


Augustus Smithberger

In 1900, 28 year old farmer Angus (sic) Smithberger (dob Jan 1872) lived with his wife of 6 years, Eliza (27 - Sept 1872) on a rented farm in Bethel Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children, Levia (6 - May 1894), Ema (3 - Aug 1896), Willie (1 - Aug 1898) and Herbert (4 mos - Jan 1900). All members of the household were born in Ohio as was August's father. August's mother and Elizabeth's parents were born in Germany.

In 1910, 39 year old farmer August Smithberger lived with his wife of 18 years, Eliza (38), on a rented farm in Bethel Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children, Leora (13), Emma (13), Willie (11), Herbert (10), Alise (6), Peter (3) and Mary (1) [This was probably May since Mary was born until Dec 1910]. Also living with them was Eliza's brother John (41). Emma, Willie, Herbert and Alise attended school. All members of the household were born in Ohio as was August's father. August's mother and Eliza's parents were born in Germany.

In 1920, 48 year old farmer, August Smithberger lived with his wife Eliza (48) on a farm they owned in Elk Twp., Noble Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children, Alice (15), Peter (13), May (11), Mary (9) and Kattie (6). Also living with them was a hired man John Miller (51) [This was probably Eliza's brother who was living with the family in 1910 also.]. All of the children attended school. All members of the household were born in Ohio as was August's father. August's mother and Eliza's parents were born in Germany.

In 1930, August Smithberger (60) and his wife Eliza (58) owned a farm worth $500 in Elk Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Living with them were their daughter Katherine (16), and granddaughters Blanch (12) and Emma (10) Hoskins. Blanch and Emma were the daughters of the Smithberger's daughter, Leora. All three girls attended school.
