John W. Wahl

At the time of the 1900 census, the Wahl family consisted of John (34), his wife Regina (27), and their children Olphonus (3), Stella M. (2) and Raymond J. (1). The family lived in Malaga Twp., Monroe County, Ohio.

In 1910, John W. Wahl (44) and his wife Regina (36) owned a farm in Malaga Twp. Living with them were their seven surviving children: son Ally (13), Estella (12), Raymond (11), Leroy (9), Edna (4), Julius (2) and Jeanetta (4 mos.). According to the census, another child died prior to 1910. The four oldest children attended school. The family of John's brother Frederick lived nearby, as did his parents and several of his unmarried siblings.

By 1920, John and Regina Wahl owned a mortgaged dairy farm in Madison Twp., Licking Co., Ohio where they lived with their children Ollie G. (23), Estella M. (22), Raymond J. (20), Leroy E. (18), Edna M. (13), Julius J. (12), Jeannette C. (10) and Fir??ira (son, 8). The youngest four children attended school.

At the time of the 1930 census, John and Regina owned a farm on Wilkins Run Road in Madison Twp. , Licking County, Ohio. Living in the household with them were their children Leroy A. (29), Edna (24), Julius (22), Jeanette (20), and Finnian (18). None of the children attended shcool. Leroy, Edna and Julius worked in a shoe factory, and Finnian was a farm worker.

Joseph Wahl

Joseph Wahl does not appear with the family in either the 1920 or 1930 census, and is presumed to have died before that time.


John W. Butler

In 1930, John W. Butler (58) owned a farn in Malaga Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with his wife Minnie (54). Living with them were their sons Raphael V. (22), Francis J. (19), Paul L. 15), and Ronald R. (9). The two youngest two biys attended school. The two older boys worked on the farm. According to the census, John Butler and his mother were born in Ohio; his father was Irish.

After the death of his first wife, John Butler married her first cousin, whose name was also Philimena Reischman.

John Butler was a patient at Barnesville General Hospital for five weeks preceding his death. Death certificate informant was his son, Francis Butler. s

According to her death certificate, Minnie Reischman Butler had a mastectomy several months prior to her death.


Ethel Butler

Ethel died on Christmas Eve following an unsuccessful operation for cancer of the fallopian tubes, ovaries and omentum two months after her 17th birthday.

MISSING IN ACTION
Butler, John, of Barnesville, formerly of Woodsfield,
Route 3,received a telegram from The War Department
Tuesday, January
30th, that his son, Pvt. Raphael C. Butler, was missing in
action inBelgium.
Private Butler was inducted int The Army, April 3,
1942, and has spentthe past eight months overseas.
He has two brothers serving overseas: Pfc. Paul
Butler, somewhere inFrance, and Cpl. Francis Butler,
in The Dutch East Indies.

BUTLER, PFC. RAPHAEL
KILLED IN BELGIUM
A Memorial Service was observed in St. John's
Catholic Church atMiltonsburg, by the pastor, Rev. G.F.
Drescher, Tuesday morning, March 13th, for Pfc.
Raphael Butler, who was killed in action in Belgium on
January 16th.
Pfc. Butler was born December 19, 1908, in Monroe
County, near Miltonsburg, where he spent his entire life
before entering the service.
He was the son of John Butler and the late Minnie
Butler. He leaves to mourn his sad departure, his father,
John Butler, of Barnesville; three brothers, Clem Butler, of
Jerusalem, Route 2; Cpl. Francis Butler,somewhere in The
Dutch East Indies, and Pfc. Paul Butler, somewhere in
France; three nephews and two nieces. His mother preceded
him in death in1935; also two sisters, Ethel, who died in
1916; and Mrs. Victor Carpenter, who died in 1937, and one
brother, Ronald who died in 1941.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church of
Miltonsburg. Inductedinto The Army, April 2, 1942, he
received his basic training at CampChaffee, Arkansas, with
aditional training at Camp Cooke, California. Later being sent
overseas, he first was sent to England and later to France. He
was serving with Company C, 69th Tank Battalion. He was a
highly respected citizen and was loved by all who knew him.
On foreign land he nobly fell
Doing a task he had begun;
A hero brave, his life he gave
That Victory might be won.


Ronald Joseph Butler

Ronald Joseph Butler, 20, of near Miltsonsburg, died
in Ohio Valley General Hospital at Wheeling, Saturday night
at 10:30 o'clock after being a patent there for a month.
He was born near Miltonsburg on December 23, 1926,
the son of John and Minnie Reischman He is survived by his
father, John Butler, of the home, and four brothers, Raphel,
Francis and Paul all of Woodsfield, Route.
The remains were brought to the Campbell Funeral Home
in Barnesville,where they remained until Tuesday morning.
Funeral services were held at St. John's Church Miltonsburg
Tuesday,morning when a Requiem High Mass was solemnized
at 10 o'clock Rev.George Drescher officiating. Burial was made
in the church cemetery.


Edward Ben Reischman

In 1920, farmer Edward Reishcman (41) lived in Malaga Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio with his 40 year old wife Emma and their three children Charles (13), Marie (10), and James (8). They also had a 19 year old servant named Ella Mosely (?). Edward lived on the farm adjacent to his brother Nicholas, and a few farms away from his widowed sister, Elizabeth.

Henry Poulton

In 1900, Henry Poulton (46) and his wife Mary (45) rented a farm in Warren Twp., Belmont County, Ohio. Living with them were Bonnett (?) (17), George (14), Clara (12), Zita (9), and Rose (7). The four youngest children attended school. Everyone in the household was born in Ohio, as were Henry and Mary's parents.

Obituary:
Mr. Henry Poulton passed away at his home west of town Monday
afternoon near three o'clock from a complication of diseases and dropsical
condition lasting more than one year. Mr. Poulton was born near Grays-
ville, Monroe County in August 1853 where he lived his early life.
He was married twice, the first time to Mary Levis of Woodsfield,
who died five years ago. To this union seven children were born, six of
whom are living: George Poulton, Barnesville,; M.B. Poulton, Elwood
City, Pa.; Oliver Poulton, Newark, Ohio; Mrs. Clara Rogers, New Castle,
Pa.; Mrs. Ella Slevin, Temperanceville; Mrs. Raymond Boyd, Barnesville.
He was married the second time to Elizabeth Burkhart who with the
above children will survive him. Besides these, he leaves two sisters and
one brother; Mrs, Sarah Mann, Tacoma; Mrs. Ursula Armbruster, Akron,
Michael Poulton, Kent.
Mr. Poulton was a farmer and highly respected. In his religion he was a
Roman Catholic and lived by that faith. Funeral service was held in Barnes-
ville Church of the Assumption Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock conducted
by Rev. J.G. Mehler and burial was made in the Catholic Cemetery.

Mary E. Lewis

In 1870, the oldest child in the home of Adam and Magdelena Burkhart Rashman was named Mary, but her age is listed as 15 (not 17). She attended school during the previous year and worked at home.

In 1900, seven of Mary Poulton's eight children were still living.

Obituary (from Betty Hartley; exact source unknown):
Mrs. Henry Poulton, aged sixty-eight years, died at her home
west of town, early Tuesday morning, after several weeks' illness
of stomach trouble.
The deceased was born at Miltonsburg and her maiden name was
Mary Levis. Forty-nine years ago, she was married to Henry Poulton,
who with three daughters and three sons survive her, they being Mrs.
F.W. Rogers of New Castle, PA, Mrs. Nicholas Slevin of Temperance-
ville, Mrs. Raymond Boyd of Barnesville, Oliver Poulton of Newark,
M.B. Poulton of Elwood City, PA, and George Poulton of Barnesville.
Besides her husband and children, she is survived by four brothers and
three sisters.
Funeral will be held on Thursday morning at the Catholic Church of
which the deceased was a devout member, Rev. William Robben con-
ducting the service, and burial will be made in the Catholic Cemetery.

Researcher Jim Reischman has Marion's last name as "Stephens", but the children's surnames as "Stephen."

In 1930, Marion Stephens (34) rented a farm in Malaga Twp., Monroe County, Ohio where he lived with his wife Gertrude and children Mildred M. (7), Alberta M. (5), Dorothy O. (3), and Mary E. (1 yr 7 mos.). Only Mildred attended school.
