Omar Owen Terhune

In 1930, the Terhunes lived on the farm of Glen Hope in Graham Twp., Johnson County, Iowa. The family consisted of Omar Terhune (30), his wife Estelle (30), daughter Mary (1 yr 9 mos.) and a newborn female infant not yet named. Omar worked as a farm laborer. According to the census, Omar and his parents were born in Illinois. The children and Mary were natives of Iowa, as were Mary's parents. The census states that Omar and Estelle were both 25 years old at the time of their first marriage.

TERHUNE RELEASED ON $1,000 CASH BOND,
RETURNS TO PEORIA
Omar Terhune of Peoria, Ill., who was returned
to Iowa City this week and held in jail on a desertion
charge, was released Friday after he paid a $1,000
cash bond.
He has returned to Peoria.
Terhune was indicted in October by a Johnson
County grand jury after he failed to make any of the
$35 weekly payments ordered in a separate mainten-
ance granted to Mrs. Stella Terhune of Lone Tree in
September.
Trial in Johnson county district court will be
scheduled later.

TERHUNE PLEADS NOT GUILTY ON DESERTION;
RELEASED UNDER BOND
Omar Terhune of Peoria, Ill., pleaded not guilty this
morning at an arraignment in district court on a grand
jury charge of desertion.
He was released by Judge Harold D. Evans on
$1,000 bond, pending further court action.
Terhune was indicted by the grand jury in October,
1947, after he had been granted a separate mainten-
ance from Mrs. Stella Terhune, Lone Tree, and had
failed to make the payments stipulated in that decree.
He was returned to Iowa City from Peoria by Deputy
Sheriff Marold Glaspey after County Atty. Jack C. White
appeared at an extradition hearing there to obtain Ter-
hune’s release from Peoria authorities.
Terhune’s attorney is Will J. Hayek.
