Conrad Hupp

In 1900, 28 year old unmarried Conrad Hupp lived and worked with two younger siblings on his widowed father's farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Conrad, who was born in Ohio, could not read or write. Records conflict on year of birth: Aug 1871 (1900 census) vs. Aug 1870 (Snider).

In 1920, Conrad (50) and Mary (43) Hupp owned a farm in Olive Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Living with them were children L. Christina (20), Sylvinia (4), and Paul (1 yr 11 mos). None of the children attended school. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Arthur McKee and Jacob McBride.

Mary Bettinger

In 1900, 24 year old Mary Bettinger lived on her parents' farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County Ohio. She spoke English, but could not read or write.


John Bettinger

At the time of the 1880 census, John (35) and Margaret (33) Biddinger lived in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with their children Frank (7), Casper (6), Mary (4), John (2), and Barbara (8 mos). The two oldest boys attended school. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Armandus Mahler and Mary Singer, widow of John Singer. John's parents were natives of Prussa; Margaret's were from "Hesse Fulda." The Bettinger's name is misspelled Beddington in the census index.

In 1900, 56 year old farmer John Bettinger lived on a mortgaged farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 53 year old wife Margaret and seven of their children: Frank (27), Mary (24), John (22), Alexander (19), Henry (17), Joseph (15), and Andy (11). The 1900 census also shows a granddaughter, Dina R. (1), living with John and Margaret (Ebert) Bettinger. Dina was born on 6 May 1899 and baptized at St. Mary in Fulda. It is not known who Dina's parents are.

According to the census, only Joseph and Andy attended school in 1900. Everyone in the home spoke English; however Margaret (53), Mary (24) and John (22) were unable to read and write English. John Bettinger was born in Germany and came to America in 1850, when he was about six years old. He was a naturalized American citizen. John was able to read, write, and speak English.

In 1910, 66 year old John Bettinger lived in Noble County, Ohio with his 65 year old wife, Margaret. Also in the household were three of their sons: Frank (31), Henry (27), and Andy (21); Henry's new wife Jessie, age 19 (married in March, 1910), and a granddaughter, Christina (10).

At the time of the 1920 census, 75 year old widower John Biddinger lived with the family of his son, Joseph (35) in Jefferson Twp., Noble County, Ohio. John was listed in the same household, but numbered as a different family. John's birthplace was listed as Germany, but his year of immigration and citizenship status were unknown.

In the the Cause of Death field on John Bettinger's death certificate, the physician, Dr. F. W. Haudenschield of Harriettsville, stated "When I last saw him Jan 5 [19]23, he had timpanitic constitution of bowels due to indigestion. Inflamation of kidneys & heart trouble." The physician added "further do not know." Death certificate informant was Alex Bettinger (son).


Margaret Ebert

In 1870, 23 year old Margaret Ebert lived and worked on her parents' farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio.

According to the census, all nine of Margaret Ebert Bettinger's children were alive in 1900. Margaret was born in Ohio to German-born parents. She could not read or write English, although she spoke the language.

Name on death certificate is Margareth [Ebbert] Bettinger.Her mother's name was spelled Blake.


Barbara Bettinger

Twenty year old Barbara Bettinger did not live with her parents and siblings at the time of the 1900 census. She lived and worked as a servant in the household of Fred Allen on Mill St. in Rankin, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.


Cecilia E. Estadt

Ceceilia Estadt never married.
