August Kullman

August Kullman’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Signal on 26 Mar 1931:
DEATH COMES TO AUGUST KULLMAN EARLY THURSDAY
The death of August Kullman, aged 55, occurred at 1:15 o’clock Thursday morning in Good Samaritan hospital, where he was take in a serious condition Wednesday afternoon. He had been in failing health for some time. Mr. Kullman’s home is on route No. 1, Chandlersville, but for a number of years he resided on Westbourne avenue. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic church.
Surviving Mr. Kullman are his wife, formerly Miss Dora Fox, one sister, Mrs. Mary Sorg, Berne, O., and six brothers. They are Philip Kullman, Summerfield, Nicholas and William Kullman, Berne, John Kullman, Wheeling, Leo Kullman, Fairmont, W. Va., and Henry Kullman of this city.
The body was removed to the Dean Funeral home late Thursday will be taken to the home of his brother-in-law, Bert Fox, No. 3 Richards avenue.
Funeral services will be held at 9 o’clock Saturday morning in St. Nicholas Catholic church and burial will be in Woodlawn.

August Kullman's death certificate gives his wife's name as Mary, while his obituary states that his wife was Dora. The relationship between Dora Fox Kullman and Bert Fox (death certificate informatn) is unknown.

Philip Kuhlman

Phillip Kuhlman has not been found in the 1900 census.

In 1910, Phillip Kullman (32) lived with his widowed mother-in-law, Eliza A. Danford, in Marion Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Also living in the household was Phillip's wife of six years, Mollie (31), and their only child, Leo (4). It was the first marriage for both Phillip and Mollie.

At the time of the 1920 census, the members of the household were the same as in 1910, but Phillip Coleman is listed as the head of household, and the farm was rented. Also, "Mollie" is called "Ollie."

The same four people lived in the household in 1930: Phillip Kuhlman (52), Ollie A. (51), Leo R. (24), and Eliza A. Danford (75). Phillip is listed as the owner of the farm. The family did not own a radio set, although their neighbors, the Carpenters, did.

SUMMERFIELD - Philip Kuhlman, 66, native of Fulda, Noble
county, died Tuesday evening at his home north of Summerfield following
a long illness. Surviving are his widow, Anna; a son, Leo R. Kuhlman of
Summerfield, and two brothers, Leo Kuhlman of Fairmont, W. Va. and
William Kuhlman of Berne. Arrangements are incomplete but burial will
be in Eastern cemetery, Summerfield.

Philip Kuhlman

Phillip Kuhlman has not been found in the 1900 census.

In 1910, Phillip Kullman (32) lived with his widowed mother-in-law, Eliza A. Danford, in Marion Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Also living in the household was Phillip's wife of six years, Mollie (31), and their only child, Leo (4). It was the first marriage for both Phillip and Mollie.

Elmer E. Culbertson

At the time of the 1930 census, Elmer (49) and Nancy E. (63) Culbertson rented a home in Cass Twp., Muskingum County, Ohio. Elmer worked as a trackman for the railroad. The census states that Elmer was 32 years old at the time of his first marriage, and Nancy was 16. This suggests that Nancy and Elmer married around 1913, and that it was her second marriage and his first. The Culbertson's did not own a radio set. Nancy's daughter Jennie Cullins lived next door. In the census index, the name is misspelled Cullertson


Nancy Ellen Archer

In 1900, recently widowed Nancy Archer Kullman lived in a house in Stock Twp., Noble Co., Ohio with her seven surviving children: Martin (15), Adrian (13), Baltria (10), Matilda (7), Julian (4), Rosa (2), and Mary (8 months). (There is no indication of whether the house was rented or owned.) All seven children attended school. Everyone in the home older than 6 could read and write. Nancy Kullman had given birth to two other children who died prior to 1900. Nancy's occupation is "day laborer." Adjacent farms were owned by Nancy's father, and her first cousin, C. Michael Archer.

At the time of the 1910 census, widow Nancy E. Kullman (44) owned a home on Chestnut Street in Dresden Village, Jefferson Twp., Muskingum County, Ohio. She lived there with her children Martin E. (25), Jennie (?) (23, female), Adrian (20, male), Agnes (17), Julian A. (14), Millie (12), and Mary I. (10). .Julian, Millie, and Mary attended school. Nancy Kullman was not employed, although her oldest four children were. The census indicates that 7 of Nancy's nine children were still living in 1910.

Nancy Kullman has not been found in the 1920 or 1930 census.

There is some confusion about children #s 2, 3, 4 and 5 in Nancy's family. Dolores Snider, citing church and local records, has

The obituary of Jane "Jennie" Kullman Cullins states that she was born on 29 Nov 1887. The obituary also states that Jane had two surviving siblings and six who predeceased her, for a total of 9 children in the family.

Further research has to be done to clarify the names and birthdates of children in this family.

Nancy Ellen Archer Kullman Culbertson’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Signal on 7 Apr 1935:
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ellen Culbertson, 68, who
died Friday morning at her home in Dresden, will be held at
9 o’clock Monday morning at St. Anne’s Catholic church in
Dresden, of which she was a member. She died following
a cerebral hemorrhage which she suffered Thursday.
A native of Carlisle, she had lived in Dresden for 35 years.
Surviving are her husband, Elmer, four daughters, Mrs. Charles
Cullins, Trinway; Mrs. T. P. Kennedy and Mrs. C. F. Ward, Col-
umbus; and Mrs. A. R. Smith, this city, and two sons, Julian
Kullman, Dresden, and Martin Kullman, Sparta.


Martin V. Archer

In 1900, 59 year old farmer Martin Archer lived on a farm that he owned in Stock Twp., Noble County Ohio with his second wife, 56 year old Sarah. Michael and his parents were born in Ohio.

Not listed as a surviving sibling in the 1922 obituary of brother Sebastian Archer.


Bertha Jane Shipley

The 1900 census entry for Bertha's daughter, Nancy Archer Coleman, states that both her parents were born in Ohio.


Martin V. Archer

In 1900, 59 year old farmer Martin Archer lived on a farm that he owned in Stock Twp., Noble County Ohio with his second wife, 56 year old Sarah. Michael and his parents were born in Ohio.

Not listed as a surviving sibling in the 1922 obituary of brother Sebastian Archer.


Sarah Jean Riddle

Sarah never had any children. She and her mother were born in Ohio; her father was born in Pennsylvania.


Martin Ernest Kullman

In 1910, Martin Julliman lived with his widowed mother and siblings in Dresden, Muskingum County, Ohio. He was employed as a teamster in a saw mill.

In 1930, Martin Kullman (45) lived on a farm worth $10,000 in Pike Twp., Stark County, Ohio with his wife, Mary A. (37) and children Florence (16), Genivieve (?) (14), Marie (12), Francis (9), Joseph (7), Anthony (6), Richard (3 yrs 7 mos), and William (1 yr 5 mos). Also living with the family was a laborer named Alfred Dean. The oldest five children attended school. Like most of their neighbors, the Kullmans owned a radio set.


Charles Lewis Cullins

On 5 Jun 1917, 29 year old Charles Lewis Cullins of Trinway, Ohio filled out a U.S. military draft registration card. He stated that he was born on March 11, 1888 in Dresden, Ohio. Charles was employed as a hostler helper for the P.C.C & St. L. R. in Trinway. He indicated that he was responsible for the support of a wife and one child. Charles was described as being of medium height and stout build, with blue eyes and black hair. He had no obvious physical disabilities.

At the time of the 1930 census, Charles L. Cullins (42) and his wife Jennie (43), owned a home worth $3000 in Cass Township, Muskingum County, Ohio. Living with them were their two daughters, Edith A. (17) and Norma R. (7). Both girls attended school. Charles worked as a hostler in the railroad yards. The Cullins family owned a radio set. Jennie's mother and step-father lived next door.

Charles Cullins’ obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 7 Apr 1969:
Charles L. Cullins, 81, formerly of Trinway, a retired rail-
roader, died of a heart attack at 8:20 a.m. Sunday (April 6)
at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Norma) Cunning-
ham of Dresden Route 2.
Born March 11, 1888, in Muskingum County, he was a
son of Henry and Clara Schweitzer. His wife, Jennie, died
in 1962.
He worked for the Penn Central Railroad. He attended
Muskingum Presbyterian Church.
Surviving in addition to Mrs. Cunningham are another
daughter, Mrs. Joe (Edith) Grimes of Columbus; a brother,
William, of Trinway; three grandchildren. A daughter and
a brother are deceased.
Friends may call at Dresden Chapel of Baughman and
Sons Funeral Home 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to
9 p.m. Tuesday.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home with Rev. Roy Bower officiating. Burial will be in Dres-
den Cemetery.


Jane Adrian Kullman

Jane Kullman is not included in Dolores Snider's book "St. Mary's -- 150 Years -- Fulda, OH," nor is she in the 1900 census with the family. It is believed that Jane and John Adrian are the same child.

The Cullins’ anniversary announcement was published the Zanesville Signal, 8 Apr 1937
Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Cullins, Trinway, will entertain
relatives in honor of the 25 th anniversary of their wedding.
Before her marriage, Mrs. Cullins was Miss Jennie Kullman.
Mr. and Mrs. Cullins have two daughters, Miss Edith Cullins
of Toledo and Miss Norma Cullins of the home.


Jane (Jennie) Kullman Cullins' obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on August 18, 1962.
MRS. CHARLES L. CULLINS
Services for Mrs. Charles I Cullins of Trinway will be
held at 2:30 pm Sunday from the Dresden Chapel of
Baughman and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be in
Dresden Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 until 4
and from 7 until 9 this afternoon and evening.
The former Jane (Jennie) Kullman she was born Nov.
29, 1887 at Fulda Noble County a daughter of Damion
and Nancy Ellen Archer Kullman. She was a member
of Trinway Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters,
Mrs. Joe Grimes of Dresden and Mrs. Robert Cunningham
of Dresden route 2; three grandchildren; a brother, Julian
Kullman of Dresden and a sister, Miss Irene Kullman of
Buckeye Lake.
Three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.
Mrs. Cullins died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday [16 Aug 1962]
at her home. She had been ill since April.


Adrian Earl Kullman

In 1910, 20 year old Adrian E. Kullman lived with his widowed mother and siblings in Dresden, Muskingum County, Ohio. He worked in a rolling mill.

On 5 Jun 1917, 27 year old Adrian Earl Kullman of Dresden, Muskingum Co., OH filled out a U.S. military draft registration card. He stated that he was born on June 26, 1889 in Carlisle, OH. Adrian was a textile worker at the Cleveland Woolen Mill Co. in Dresden. He indicated that he was married. When questioned about his health, Adrian stated that he had "heart and kidney trouble." He was described as being of medium height and slender build with brown eyes and slightly balding brown hair.

At the time of the 1920 census, Adrian Kullman (30) rented part of a home in Jefferson Township, Muskingum County, Ohio. Living with him were his wife, Mary (21) and daughter Frances E. (2 yrs 1 mo). Everyone in the family was a native of Ohio as were their parents, with the exception of Mary's mother, who was born in Pennsylvania. Adrian and Mary both worked for the Cleveland Woolen Mills Co.; Mary as a weaver, and Adrian in finishing. Also living in the same dwelling (but listed as a separate head of household) was an unmarried Swedish peddler named Mayor Wasserman (40). Adrian's brother Julian lived nearby.

Mary

In 1930, 31 year old widow Mary Kullman rented a residence in a multi-family dwelling for $12 a month on Third St. in Jefferson Twp., Muskingum County, Ohio. Living with her was her daughter Frances (12). Mary worked as a weaver in a woolen mill.


Agnes Matilda Kullman

According to census records: in 1900, the 7 year old daughter of Nancy Kullman was named Matilda. Ten years later, the child was called Agnes. Her obituary refers to her as Agnes V. Kennedy.

In 1910, 17 year old Agnes lived with her mother and siblings in Jefferson Twp., Muskingum County, Ohio. She was employed as a housekeeper for a private family.

Funeral services for Mrs. Agnes V. Kennedy, 57, of 2713 Hibbert
avenue, Columbus, will be conducted from the Immaculate Conception church
in Columbus Monday morning [9 Jan 1950] at 9:30 o’clock. Burial will be in
St. Josephs cemetery by the Egan-Ryan funeral home of Columbus.
Surviving the deceased are her husband, Thomas; three sisters, Miss
Irene Kullman of Newark; Mrs. F. C. Ward of Columbus, and Mrs. Charles
Cullins of Trinway; two brothers, Joseph Kuffman (sic) of Dresden and Martin
Kullman of Canton.
