Joseph Albert Blake

In 1900, eleven year old Joseph Blake lived on the family farm in Enoch Twp., Noible Co., OH. He attended school for eight months that year.


Grant Arthur Davis

The following wedding announcement appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on June 29, 1948: EVELYN BLAKE, GRANT DAVIS WED AT FULDA Miss Evelyn Blake, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harley Blake of Dexter city, was married to Grant Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Davis of Caldwell, Saturday, June 12, in St. Mary's Catholic church in Fulda. The double ring ceremony was read by Rev. Father Mattes. The bride wore a lovely gown of slipper satin fashioned with a high neckline with seed pearl trim, and sleeves tapering to points over her hands. The skirt fell into a long train. Her fingertip veil was caught to a coronet trimmed with silver sequins. She carried a bouquet of white carnations and a crystal rosary, a gift of the bridegroom. Miss Dorothy Schott was maid of honor wearing a blue marquisette gown styled with a fitted bodice and full skirt. Her bouquet was of pink and white carnations. Eddie Schockling was best man for Mr. Davis. Mrs. Blake chose for her daughter's wedding a navy blue dress with black accessories. Mrs. Davis, mother of the bridegroom, wore a black dress with white accessories. both wore orchid corsages. Following the ceremony, dinner was served to 80 guests in the parish hall. A three-tiered wedding cake topped with a miniature (something missing here) table. In the evening, a dance was held at the hall in honor of the couple. The new Mrs. Davis is a graduate of Caldwell high school. Mrs. (sic) Davis is also a graduate of Caldwell high school and is employed at the Clark Service station. The newlyweds are living with the bride's parents.

Gladys Irene Morningstar

Gladys Moringstar Blake's obituary was published in the The Tipton (IA) Conservative on September 20, 2007


Funeral services for Gladys Irene Blake, 93, Mechanicsville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Mechanicsville, with burial in the Rose Hill cemetery, Mechanicsville. Mrs. Blake died Sept. 15 at Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness. The daughter of Louis and Jane Morningstar, she was born Sept. 9, 1914 in Cedar county. She graduated from Mechanicsville high school. She married Earl Blake on Nov. 19, 1935 at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Mechanicsville. She and her husband retired, after farming several years around the area, to their new home in Mechanicsville, in 1970. Earl Blake died in 1970. Mrs. Blake was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church and St. Mary’s Guild at Mechanicsville. For over 50 years she belonged to the Ugoa-Igoa Club in Morley. People said Gladys Blake would rather play cards than eat. When she didn’t have cards in her hands she would crochet. She enjoyed traveling, fishing and mostly being with people. She often went to Minnesota with her husband, son and his friends, and traveled to Hawaii 3 times. She will be remembered for riding a camel while in the Holy Land. Mrs. Blake is survived by her children, Richard (Karen) Blake, Pensacola, Fla.; Darrel (Judy) Blake, Cedar Rapids; and Dottie (Larry) Butler, Mechanicsville; 6 grandchildren, Thad and Lydia, Teresa and Jeff, and Krisan and KeliJo, and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Katherine, at birth; a granddaughter, Heather Blake; and several sisters and a brother.

Edwin and Hazel Blake will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary Feb
23 [2003] with a one hour open house at their residence, Mechanicsville Nursing
and Rehab Center, 104 E. 4th St. Mechanicsville [Iowa]. Friends and relatives are
invited to attend from 2 to 3 p.m. and cards may be sent to the above address.
The couple was married Feb. 25 1933 at St. Mary's Catholic church, Mechanicsville.
They are the parents of two daughters, Mary Ellen and Ronald Ford, Loveland, Colo.,
and Carolyn and John Cook, Tipton.
They have 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson:
James Ford, Apapka, Fla; Jerry, Dawn, and Ethel For, Clinton; Michael, Kathleen, and
Daniel Ford, Broomfield, Colo; Pamela, Gary, Blake, and Tyler Zaruba, Davenport;
Katherine, Darrel, Danielle and Dalton Harms, Tipton; Deborah, Wilbert, Courtney and
Skylar Wendt, West Liberty; Kevin, Andrea, Cassandra, Christopher, Amanda, and
Brandon Cook and Hoshua Hildebrand all of Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Edwin John Blake, 96, of 104 East 4th Street, Mechanicsville, Iowa, died March
13, 2007, at Mechanicsville Nursing & Rehabilitation. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday,
March 16, with parish vigil at 6 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Services will be 10:30
a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicsville. Burial will be in Rose Hill
Cemetery, Mechanicsville. A memorial has been established. Online condolences may

He was born July 28, 1910, in Noble County, Ohio, to Fredrick Blake and Anna
Elizabeth Noll Blake. He was educated in Cedar County and attended school in Ohio.
He married Hazel Reona Carr on February 25, 1933, in Mechanicsville. Edwin was a
member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a past Farm Bureau and Co-op member.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel; daughters, Mary Ellen Ford and husband Ronald of
Loveland, Colorado, and Carolyn Cook and husband John of Tipton; seven grandchildren;
13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother, Harry Blake of Baring,
Washington. He was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond Blake and Carlin Blake,
and sister, Cornelius Cordle
