Albert Leo Archer

In 1930, Albert Archer lived with his elderly parents and two siblings on the family farm near Sumemrfield in Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Albert worked outside the home as an engineer in a lumber mill.

Albert and his wife had no children.


Mary Eunice Horton

ZANESVILLE - Eunice Horton Archer, 99, of The Helen Purcell Home, formerly of Carlisle, Ohio, died Saturday (Jan. 5, 2002) at the home.
She was born Dec. 28, 1902, near Carlisle, Stock Township, to Richard W. and Mary Ida Spangler Horton. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Carlisle.

She is survived by four nieces, Dorothea Upshaw and Hilda P. Swick, both of Carlisle, Loretta Jo Adams of Willowick, Ohio, and Margy Kunesh of Dayton; and one nephew, Richard Horton of Dayton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Archer, who died Feb. 19, 1983; her parents; two brothers, M. Paul Horton and Joseph E. Horton; and two nephews, Richard W. Horton and Charles E. Horton.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Carlisle with the Rev. Samuel R. Saprano as celebrant. Burial is in Archer Cemetery near Carlisle. Friends will be received at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Walter Archer was a resident of Marietta, Ohio at the time of his mother's death in 1933.

Mary Stottsberry

Sources conflict on surname: Mary's great-grand-niece says that the name was Stottsberry. Dolores Snider, citing church records, give the name as Stotteberry.


Cynthia Bates

The 1860 census lists a 5 year old Cynthia J. Bates in the household of Joseph and Emily (?) Bates in Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio (page 126, lines 25-34). It is not known if this is the same person as the wife of Michael Archer.


James Stowe

Records conflict on spelling of surname.

In 1880, James (30) and Emeline (29) Stow lived in Center Twp., Noble Co., OH with their son Simon (2), and an unmarried farm hand named Tucker Keller (26). No occupation is listed for either James or Emeline. (For most other households on the page, the husband is "farmer" and the wife "keeps house.") The census states that James Stow's parents were born in Pennsylvania. Adjacent farms in the census were those of Peter Kirkbride and William Brothers. James' father-in-law, Simon Archer, lived four households away.


Emiline Archer

The following notice appeared in the "Fulda Locals" section of The Caldwell Citizens' Press on 29 Dec 1881:
Emmeline Stowe, of Center township, was adjuuged insane December 20th,
upon the testimony of W. Stowe. B. F. Young, and David Donaldson and
the medical certificate of Dr. D. H. Taylor. She is the daughter of Simon
Archer. The papers were transmitted.
