Larry Neff was a member of the Caldwell High School Class of 1958.


Leonard Michael Burkhart

Leonard M. Burkhart, 67, of 146 Boory Place, Waynesburg, died December 11 after an
illness of one year. Born in Lewisville, Monroe County, the son of Alex J. and Lucy Burkhart,
he moved to Waynesburg in 1962 from Canton. He was a retired owner of the former Burkhart
Texaco in North Canton and the former Burkhart Motors in Waynesburg. Recently he was
employed by the Spring Valley Golf Course. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church,
K of C No. 341 of Canton, an Air Force Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his widow, Nellie (Kuhn), a daughter, Janet, a Humility of Mary sister in
Cleveland; four sons, Thomas and Donald of Malvern, Ronald of Waynesburg, and Terry of
Orlando, FL; two grandchildren; a brother Harold of Syracuse, NY.
Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. James Church with Father Thomas Dyer officiating.
Cremation followed. Memorials may be given to Epiphany Hunger Center at 11901 Oakfield
Avenue, Cleveland,Ohio 44105.


Nellie Ann Kuhn

The name on her baptismal certificate was Petronella, but she disliked that name and always went by Nellie.

Miss Nellie Kuhn of Lewisville and Michael Burkhart of Canton exchanged
wedding vows Jun 1 [1946] in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Burkhart.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Kuhn of Lewisville. She
has been employed in Cincinnati. The bridegroom, recently discharged from service
after serving as lieutenant in the air corps, is employed at Republic Steel in Canton,
where the couple will live.

WOODSFIELD - Before an altar adorned with arrangements of spring flowers at
St. Joseph’s Catholic church in Burkhart Saturday morning [01 Jun 1946], Miss
Nellie Kuhn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Kuhn of Lewisville, exchanged
double ring vows with Michael Burkhart of Canton.
Rev. Father Joseph Finan officiated at the nuptial high mass. Wedding music was
presented by Mrs. Howard Rucker, organist.
The bride was attired in a white fingertip veil which was attached to a crown of
orange blossoms. Her only jewelry was a strand of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom.
The bridal bouquet was formed of white carnations, centered with an orchid and tied
with a shower of white ribbon.
Attending her sister as maid of honor was Mrs. Harold Burkhart of Cincinnati. She
was attired in a gown of pink taffeta with a matching head band. Her bouquet was com-
posed of white and pink carnations. Harold Burkhart of Cincinnati was best man for his
brother.
Following the ceremony a dinner was served at the home of the bride’s parents with
covers being laid for 50 guests. In the evening a public dance was held in honor of the
couple, the music being provided by the Burns orchestra.
The bride was graduated from Lewisville high school and before her marriage was
employed in Cincinnati. The bridegroom served more than four years in the armed forces.
At the time of his discharge he held the rank of a lieutenant in the army air corps. He is
employed at Republic Steel Corp. in Canton. The couple will reside in that city.

Obituary:
Nellie A. Burkhart, age 81, of Waynesburg, passed away suddenly Thursday evening
in her home. She was born in Burkhart station, Monroe County, OH., a daughter of the
late Joseph and Mary Biedenbach Kuhn, and had resided in the Canton-Waynesburg
area most of her life.
Nellie was a 1940 graduate of Lewisville High School in Monroe Co. She had helped
her husband at Burkhart Motors for many years. She was an active member of St. James
Catholic Church and had volunteered at Aultman Hospital, among her many other
activities.
Preceded in death by her husband, Leonard “Mike” Burkhart, on Dec 11, 1984, and a
daughter-in-law, Nancy Castellucci Burkhart, in 1989. Survived by her daughter, Sister
Janet Burkhart, HM, of Youngstown; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Thomas
Burkhart, of Malvern, Ronald Burkhart, of Waynesburg, Donald and Sherrie Burkhart
of Louisville, and Terry Burkhart, of Orlando, FL; a granddaughter, Tracy Fitzpatrick
and her husband, Kevin, of Akron; a grandson, Michael Burkhart and his wife, Susannah, and their sons, Max Joseph and Thomas Michael Burkhart, all of New York City; three
sisters, Dorothy Norris, of Columbus, OH, Emma Dimmerling, of Caldwell, OH, and
Matilda Burkhart, of Syracuse, NY; one brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Evelyn
Kuhn, of Columbus, OH.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be sung on Monday evening at 5:30 p.m. in St. James
Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Seifert as Celebrant. interment in Sandy Valley
Cemetery following cremation. After the Mass the family invites friends to join them in
the church hall for a time of remembrance and refreshments. In lieu of flowers, memorial
gifts may be made in Mrs. Burkhart’s memory to The Sisters of the Humility of Mary,
PO Box 914, Villa Maria, PA, 16155.


Janet Sue Burkhart

Janet entered the convent as Sister Janet Burkhart HM. In 2003, she lived in Youngstown, Ohio.


John Reischman

Barb Schwitzgebel gives first name as William. However, in the 1880 census, the husband of Margaret Kress is John Reischman.

In 1880, 28 year old farmer John Reischman lived with his wife's parents and brother in Fox Settlement, Ludlow Twp., Washington Co., Ohio.

Records conflict on place of birth:
According to Dolores Snider, Margaret was baptized in St. Mary's in Fulda, which suggests she was born near there. Census records also give her birthplace as Ohio. Margaret's death certificate and researcher Jim Reischman say that Margaret was born in Wheeling, (West) Virginia, roughly 70 miles away from Fulda.
