Peter Burkhart

In 1900, Peter Burkhart (41 - Dec 1858) and his wife Sarah (27 - Jun 1872) rented a farm in Boston, Belmont County, Ohio. Sarah had given birth to four children, all of whom lived with them: Ida F. (7 - Aug 1892), Joseph (5 - Jul 1894), Victoria (4 - May 1896) and George (1 Jul 1898). Everyone in the household was a native of Ohio. Peter's brother John lived next door in the census.

Adam Weisend

At the time of the 1880 census, 23 year old farmer Adam Weisend lived with his wife Barbara (18) in Seneca Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. They had no children. Adam's parents, Jacob and Catherine (Ulrich) Weisend, lived next door.

In 1900, Adam Weisend (43) owned a farm in Seneca Twp. where he lived with his wife of 20 years Barbara F. (37) and their children John (19), Mary (18), Andy (16), Joseph (12), Simon (10), and Hannah (5). Joseph and Simon attended school for seven months during the previous year.

In 1910, Adam Weisend (53) lived on a farm in Seneca Twp. with his wife Barbara (47) and children John (29), Joseph (22), Simon (20), and Hannah (15). Adjacent farms in the census belonged to John P. Ulrich and Clemence Weisend (Adam's second cousin, once removed).

Researcher Betty Hartley has a seventh child in this family: Frank J. Weisend (1899 - 1920). However, Frank does not appear with the family in either the 1900 or 1910 census.


Barbara T. Burkhart

Barbara's father gave permission for marriage; she was only 17 years old, per courthouse records.

According to the 1880 census, both of Barbara's parents were born in Germany. All six of Barbara Weisend's children were alive in 1900. By 1910, only five of her six children were living.

BARBARA WEISEND CALLED BY DEATH
WOODSFIELD, O. - Mrs. Barbara Weisend, 87, died at the home
of her grandson, Lewis Weisend, Lewisville Rt. 1, Wednesday morning
[26 Apr 1950] at 6:20 o’clock following several weeks illness. She was
the daughter of the late Anthony and Hannah Kuhn Burkhart and was
a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. C. J. Rausch; two sons, John J. Weisend,
Lewisville Rt. 1 and Joseph, Louisville (Stark county); 12 grandchildren;
10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Burkhart, Miltonsburg; two
brothers, N. I. Burkhart and J. J. Burkhart, both of Lewisville Rt. 1. Mrs.
Weisend was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, two sons,
two sisters, and eight brothers.
The body was taken to the Schumacher funeral home in Woodsfield
where friends are being received.. Requiem high mass will be solemnized
in St. Joseph’s church, Burkhart station, Friday morning at 9:30 o’clock. Rev.
D. J. Finan will officiate and burial will be in Chapel Hill cemetery.

Hannah C. Weisend

According to the 1910 census, Hannah Weisend was mute. She did not attend school that year. She is not mentioned as a surviving child in her mother's 1950 death notice.


Walter Ervine Pugh

On 12 Sep 1918, 33 year old Walter Ervine Pugh of 4 Powhatan Pt., Belmont, Ohio registered for the US military draft. Walter's next of kin was his wife, Anna M. Pugh of the same address. His birthdate was March 30, 1885. He was employed in the timber and lumber trade by W. E. Pugh of Powhatan York TP, Belmont, Ohio. Walter was described as being tall and slender with blue eyes and light hair.

In 1930, Walter Pugh (45) owned a home worth $10,000 at 640 Nineteenth St. NW in Plain Twp. in Canton Ohio's 7th Ward. Other members of the household were his wife, Anna M. (38), his widowed mother-in-law, Catherine Haren (63), and a female unmarried roomer named Tacy Adams. Everyone was a native of Ohio. Walter was a carpenter in the house construction industry. The Pugh family owned a radio set, as did most of their neighbors.


Regina May Burkhart

The following engagement announcement, accompanied by a photo, appeared in the Zanesville Signal on 29 Jul 1958:
MISS BURKHART REVEALS DATE FOR WEDDING
Saturday, October 4 will be the wedding date of Miss Regina
Burkhart and Paul J. Dutro, friends of the bride-elect learned last
night at a party given in her honor. Miss Burkhart is pictured center,
with the hostess, her sister, Mrs. Steve DeVol (right) and her sister-
in-law, Mrs. Leo Burkhart at whose home on Adamsville road the
party was held. Linda Burkhart, extreme right, young niece of the
guest of honor, revealed the wedding date in a poem which she
presented to one of the guests. A blue and white color scheme
was used. Miss Burkhart is the daughter of Nicholas Burkhart of
526 Luck avenue. Mr. Dutro is the son of M Nat C. Dutro Sr. of
1239 Wheeling avenue. Their engagement was announced
May 4.

Regina Burkhart Dutro's obituary appeared in the Times Recorder on December 15, 2007
ZANESVILLE - Regina M. Burkhart Dutro, 76, of Zanesville,
died at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at her residence
following a lengthy illness.
She was born Wednesday, March 4, 1931, in Zanesville, the
daughter of Nicholas and Ida Emma (Nau) Burkhart. She married
Paul J. Dutro on Saturday, Oct. 4, 1958, and was a member of St.
Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Regina was employed in the
banking industry and enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, sewing,
traveling and high school sports, especially Rosecrans.
Regina is survived by her husband of the home; two daughters,
Lynne (Nolan) Foltz of Hawaii and Marsha (John) Harris of Zanes-
ville; a son, Brian (Tammy) Dutro of Columbus; three grandchildren,
Ryan, Lauren and Ethan Harris; two sisters, Mary DeVol of Columbus
and Sr. Mary Melinda Burkhart, O.P. of Columbus; one brother, Leo
"Burkie" (Ann) Burkhart of Zanesville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the
Hillis and Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave., with the vigil
service at 7:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday,
Dec. 17, 2007, at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with a
Dominican Father as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary
Cemetery.

Solomon Hesson

In June 1850, 22 year old Ohio-born farmer Solomon Hesson lived in Enoch Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. His farm was next to that of James (60) and Elizabeth Hesson (50) and their children. It is not known if James (born in PA) was Solomon's father. Solomon lived with his 18 year old wife Margaret and their three month old son Miles. Margaret and Miles were born in Ohio. The census states that Solomon and Margaret had not been married within the past year.

In 1870, 43 yearw old Solomon Hesson lived in Enoch Twp., Noble County with his wife Margaret (37) and children Alice (17), Elizabeth (14), William (11), Martha (6) and Lily (3). Adjacent households in the census were those of Solomon's son Miles and his brother-in-law William Heddleson.

At the time of the 1880 census, Solomon Hesson (52) still lived in Enoch Twp. with his wife Margaret (48) and children Elizabeth (24), Martha (18), Lilly (13), and Duff (8). Martha, Lilly and Duff attended school. Everyone in the home was born in Ohio. Solomon's father and mother were born in Pennsylvania and Virginia, respectively. Neighboring farms in the census belonged to Frank Schrimp and Solomon's son Miles Hesson.

In 1900, 72 year old farmer Solomon Hesson lived on a farm that he owned in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 58 year old wife Margaret. Their farm was located between the households of of Duff Hesson (27) and John Hesson, who may have been relatives. Solomon and his mother were born in Ohio; his father was born in Pennsylvania.


Margaret Heddleson

The 1880 census states that Margaret's father and mother were born in Scotland and Ireland, respectively.

According to the 1900 census, seven of Margaret Heddleston Hesson's eight children were living in 1900. Margaret could read, but not write.


Elizabeth

In 1880, 79 year old widow Elizabeth Hesson lived in the household of her grandson, Miles Hesson in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Elizabeth was born in Virginia; her parents were born in Prussia.
