Francis Sebastian Crock

In the early 1930s, Leo Crock had a coupe that he drove to work and a LaSalle as the family car. The LaSalle was like a station wagon with three rows of seats; the middle row folded down. Leo would let Edward and Francis drive the coupe to play baseball on Sunday afternoons as long as they were home in time to do the milking and feed the animals. One Sunday they started home a little late, and Edward was driving too fast for the narrow dirt road. Francis thought the car was going to roll over, so he opened the door to jump out. His fears were justified... the car rolled over before he could jump. No one was hurt, but the door fell off the car, and the window was broken. They turned the car back up on its wheels and Francis held the door in place while they drove in the driveway and parked the car in the barn next to the horse stall. The frame of the car was made of wood, so they nailed the door back on after they finished their chores. When Leo drove to work on Monday, he noticed that the window was missing, and thought that the horse had kicked it. Later he discovered the nails, and the boys confessed what they had done.
