Clara Katherine Crock

In the 1930s, it became popular to add "Jr." to a boy's name if he was given his father's name. If Clara Katherine had been a boy, she would have been named "Leo E. Crock, Jr." After her birth, Leo Crock took his daughter to be baptized when his wife was too weak to accompany them. Since she would have been named after her father if she'd been boy, Leo insisted his daughter be named after her mother... even though her next older sister already had her mother's first name! They ended up with three Clara Crocks in the home... the mother, and the two youngest children. The youngest Clara was known as Katie, and her older sister was called Bernetta.

Katie and Frank Hirt lived in Akron, Kent, McDonald, Toronto, Lorain, and Shadyside (all in Ohio). They moved to North Canton in 1969.
