Arthur Charles Crum

The following article appeared in the Monessen Daily Independent on April 2, 1942: Arthur Crum of Charleroi, a former Belle Vernon resident,
has gone to Washington where he has secured employment
in a clerical capacity in a government office.

The following Wedding Announcement appeared in The Charleroi (PA) Mail newspaper on July 6, 1955: CUMBERLAND GIRL, ARTHUR C. CRUM UNITED IN MARRIAGE Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic church of Cumberland, Maryland,
was the scene of a solemn nuptial mass of interest in Charleroi,
on Saturday June 25, when Miss Jeanne Marie Lippold daughter
of Mrs. Louis W. Lippold of that city, and the late Mr. Lippold,
became the bride of Arthur C. Crum, son of Mr. and Mrs. John
E. Crum of 212 Second street, Charleroi. Rev. Valentine Long, OFM, Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y.,
a cousin of the bride, officiated at the ceremony and was cele-
brant of the mass. Rev. Marius Eisener, OFM Cap., pastor of
SS. Peter and Paul church was the deacon and Rev. Gabriel
Giles, OFM Cap was the sub-deacon. The altar boys were
William, Henry, Patrick and James Buchanan. James Burns, student at St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore,
played the traditional wedding marches and accompanied
the mixed choir in singing the Mass, SS. Cordis Jesu by R.
A. Turton. Miss Shriner, a classmate of the bride's sang Schubert's
"Ave Maria" and also "Panis Angelicus" as solos during the
Mass. Mr. DeShong and Miss Shriner sang a duet, "Jesu,
Mi Dulcissime" by Cametri at the offertory. The altars were decorated with white gladiola and delphin-
ium with baby breath. Two strands of white lilies flanked the
main altar. Miss Louise Lippold, sister of the bride, was maid of honor
and the bride's only attendant. David E. Head, Chicago, served
as best man for Mr. Crum while the ushers were J. Holland
Hicks, Bedford, Va.; J. Patrick McMullen, Miles Amick Jr., and
Joseph Tome of Cumberland. Given in marriage by her brother, Louise W. Lippold Jr.,
Toledo, Ohio, the bride word traditional white, Her dress of
imported delicate Chantilly lace and gossamer nylon tulie, was
made with scooped neckline, a fitted bodice and long sleeves.
Her train was chapel length over a voluminous span of skirt. Her cap headpiece was made of imported lace and studded
with pearls with a fingertip length veil of French illusion. a strand
of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom, was her only jewelry. She
carried a crescent cascade of white orchids and phaelanopsis
showered with stephanotis. Arranged with the flowers was a
small ivory fan borrowed from a friend. The maid of honor was attired in a pink organdy full length
dress made with a long torso, square neckline and cap sleeves.
A satin sash of deep pink complimented the dress. She wore a
pink organdy and satin band fashioned like rose petals on her
head. She carried a crescent cascade of reuben lilies and baby
breath. Mrs. Lippold, mother of the bride, wore a mauve chiffon and
lace dress with scalloped neckline and short sleeves. An off-face
hat with matching accessories and an orchid corsage completed
her outfit. Mrs. Crum, mother of the bridegroom, was attired in a two
piece navy blue dress with striped ascot at the throat. Her cloche
hat was of navy and white straw with matching accessories. She
also wore an orchid corsage. Following the ceremony a breakfast was served at the Cum-
berland Country Club. In the afternoon, Mrs. Lippold was hostess
at a reception at the Cumberland Country Club. A three-tiered
wedding cake adorned with white wedding bells centered the
table. Peck Mills played a solovox and organ throughout the
reception. For her going-away costume, the bride wore a costume suit
in the new pecan shade. Her accessories were matching, and
her corsage was a white orchid. The bride graduated from Ursuline Academy, Maryland,
attended St. Joseph's College, Emmitsburg, and graduated
from Frostburg State Teachers College. She is a member of
the Junior Women's Civic Club and is junior editor of the Mary-
land Clubwoman, official magazine of the Maryland Federation
of Women's Clubs. She is a member of the faculty of Johnson
Heights School. Mr. Crum attended Charleroi High school, and is an alumnus
of Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. A veteran of World
War II, having served in the European theater of operations, he
is employed as resident manager of the Cumberland accounting
office of W. Baldwin Buchanan, Washington. He is a member of
the Junior Chamber of Commerce. After a trip to New York City and Cape Cod the couple will be
at home after July 10 at 21 North Lee street, Cumberland. Out-of-town guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. J. E.
Crum, Charleroi, Mr. and Mrs Edward G. Crum, Chadds Ford,
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Van Voohris, and daughters, Betty, Kay and

Art Crum's obituary appeared in The Cumberland (MD) Times-News newspaper on May 24, 2008
CUMBERLAND - Arthur "Art" Charles Crum Sr., 84, of
Cumberland, died Thursday, May 22, 2008, at his resi-
dence. Born June 10, 1923, in Charleroi, Pa., he was the son
of the late John Edward and Anna Blanche (Crock) Crum. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years,
Jeanne (Lippold) Crum, on June 16, 2006; two sisters,
Catherine Buchanan and Elizabeth VanVoorhis; and five
brothers, Francis, Edward, Regis, William and James
Crum. He graduated from Charleroi High School. Art en-
tered the U.S. Army during World War II. He belonged to
the 1019th Engineer Battalion. He used the GI Bill to
assist with tuition at Georgetown University. He grad-
uated June 11, 1952, with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Business. Art had been self-employed as a C.P.A. since June
1961, and was practicing until the time of his death. In
addition, he was one of the original teachers for the
Allegany College business program. Art taught
evening classes in economics and accounting for ten
years. He was instrumental in Allegany College
attaining their accreditation for the business
program. Art was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic
Church, serving on the parish council, advisory board,
and finance committee. He was a lifelong member of
the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants
and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Since the early 1950’s, he was an active member of the
West Side Athletic Association, attending bi-monthly
meetings. Survivors include his three children, Martina A. Martin,
and husband Hal, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Arthur C. Crum Jr.,
and wife Mary K., of Frederick, and Edward L. Crum and
wife Monika, of Myersville; grandchildren, Theresa Eric,
Claire and Bryan Martin, Artie, Sarah, and Matthew
Crum, and Indre and Vaida Kazlauskaite. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral
Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wed-
nesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake
service will be conducted at the funeral home on
Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in
SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Thursday
at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Bernard Finerty, OFM, Cap.,
celebrant. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the WMHS-
Home Hospice, c/o Linda Green, 900 Seton Drive,

Jeanne Marie Lippold

Jeanne Marie lippold Crum's obituary appeared in The Cumberland (MD) Times-News newspaper on June 18, 2006

CUMBERLAND -- Jeanne Marie (Lippold) Crum, 79, of Cumberland, died Friday, June 16, 2006, at her residence.

Born May 23, 1927, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Louis W. Lippold and Catherine M. (Schellhaus) Lippold. She was also preceded in death by her brother, William L. Lippold; and a sister, Elizabeth A. Chaney.

Jeanne graduated from the Ursuline Academy in 1944. She attended St. Joseph?s College in Emmitsburg for one year. She completed her degree in elementary education at Frostburg State Teachers? College.

Jeanne taught sixth grade at Johnson Heights Elementary School for many years.

She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ursuline Associates, Daughters of Charity, Cresap Chapter D.A.R. and past president of the Jr. Women?s Civic Club. She was the Western Maryland correspondent for the Baltimore Catholic Review for several years.

Jeanne married Arthur Charles Crum on June 25, 1955. They were married for 50 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Martina Martin and husband Hal, Scottsdale, Ariz., Arthur C. Crum Jr. and wife Mary K., Frederick, and Edward L. Crum and wife Monika, Myersville; a sister, M. Louise Crum, Cumberland; grandchildren, Theresa, Eric, Claire and Bryan Martin, and Artie, Sarah and Matthew Crum; and Monika's daughters, Indre and Vaida.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Monday at 8:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James Kurtz, O.F.M., Cap., as celebrant.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
