Elsie I. Schwallie Acme Formerly of Kimbolton and Heath, Ohio

Elsie Irene Schwallie, 84, of Acme, formerly of Kimbolton and Heath, Ohio, passed away Monday night, Oct. 20, 2008, in her residence. Elsie was born Feb. 22, 1924, in Confluence, Somerset County, a daughter of the late Harry and Cordelia M. Smith Davis.
Elsie was a homemaker for all her adult life and attended St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, Newcomerstown, Ohio, when she and her husband lived in Kimbolton. She attended St. Leonard's Catholic Church, Heath, when she and her husband lived in Heath. After her relocation to Pennsylvania, she attended Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Donegal. Elsie enjoyed woodworking, making wood furniture and sewing. She and her husband also enjoyed traveling and were able to visit all 49 continental states and Canada.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Schwallie, who died Oct. 6, 2002, and whom she married Feb. 19, 1955. Also deceased are two sons, Gary F. Schwallie, who died in 1978, and Denis L. Schwallie, who died in 1977. Elsie was also preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Q. Davis and Paul E. Davis, both of Addison; and her sister, Martha A. Pletcher, of White.
Elsie is survived by numerous nieces, nephews; great-nieces, and great-nephews.
To honor Elsie's requests, no public visiting hours will be observed. Public graveside services and burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown. Pastor Peter S. Shults will conduct the services. The family is suggesting that memorials be made in Elsie's name to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 601 Mt. Davis Road, Ft. Hill, PA 15540 or Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 194 Main St., Donegal, PA 15628. The Ourant Funeral Home and the Brooks Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant, are assisting the family with all of the arrangements.


Frances N. French

Frances N. Martin, age 91, of Caldwell died Thursday
morning July 8, 2004 at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical
Center, Cambridge. She was born December 1, 1912 in Athens, Ohio a daughter
of the late Harry and Alta French Nichols. She was a graduate of Athens
High School and Ohio University with a Bachelors in Education and had
completed some post graduate studies. She was a retired employee of the
Caldwell Exempted Village Schools with 36 1/2 years of service as an
elementary teacher and principal. She was a member of the Caldwell
United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Home-
builders Sunday School Class. She was active in the Noble County Retired
Teachers Association, the Noble County Business and Professional Women's
Association, the Women's Literary Club, was a member of several Bridge
Clubs and was the last surviving member of the HTH Bridge Club, was a
volunteer for art on the square in Caldwell and the tourist information center
at the Noble County Fairgrounds, and the Noble County Preforming Arts. She
was a former member of the national and Ohio education associations. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin P. Wood on
January 22, 1960 and her second husband, Floyd E. Martin on September 30,
1973 and one brother; Charles Nichols. She is survived by 2 daughters; Barbara W. (Darrell) Secrest of Shel-
by, Ohio, Beth W. (Bill) Sailing of Caldwell, 3 grandchildren; Brent (Jennifer)
Secrest of Wilson, N.C.,Eric (Jennifer) Secrest of Westerville, Michele (Mark)
Deutchman of Austell, Ga.; 4 Great-grandchildren; Alexander, Elizabeth &
Emma Secrest and Jamie Deutchman; 2 sisters-in-law; Jane Wood of Athens
and Doris Martin of Castalia; Several neices and nephews. Friends may call at the McVay-Perkins Funeral Home on Saturday
(7/10/2004) from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral Services will be held at the Caldwell
United Methodist Church on Sunday (7/11/2004) at 2 pm with Revs. Larry
Hukill and Gary Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow at Olive Cemetery.

ZANESVILLE -- Frank "Willis" Willis Carpenter, 87,
of Zanesville, died at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, June 30, 2002,
at the Genesis Good Samaritan Campusafter a long
illness.
Born Nov. 20, 1914, in Monroe County, he retired
after 35 years of service as a Line Foreman for Ohio
Power Electric Co. He was a member of the Eagles
Aerie 302 for 57 years and a 3rd degree Knight with
the Knights of Columbus council 505. He attended St.
Nicholas Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Audrey V. (Burkhart) Carpen-
ter, of the home, whom he married on April 30, 1938; two
daughters, Wanda L. and Frank Carmichael, Connie Jo
Wilson, both of Zanesville; one son, Stanley W. and
Rosemary Carpenter of Howell, Mich.; seven grand-
children, Doug Geyer,Daffney Geyer, Kent Carpenter,
Rene Carpenter, Kem Wilson, Travis Wilson, Kelly Lewis;
nine great grandchildren, Wesley and Andrew Geyer,
Madison Geyer, Brady "Willis" Wilson, Emily Wilson,
Georgiana Wilson, Hannah"Audrey" Wilson, Monica
and Darren Lewis; two sisters, Viola McDougal of
Summerfield and Thelma Carpenter of Zanesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter
B. and Mary A. (Stephens)Carpenter; one sister, Grace
VanMeter; three brothers, Paul W., Lawrenceand Carl
W. Carpenter.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8
p.m. today withChristian Vigil Service at 3:30 p.m. at
the Hills Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the
St. Nicholas CatholicChurch with Fr. Charles Klinger
officiating. Burial will be in Mt. OliveCemetery.

ZANESVILLE - Audrey V. Burkhart Carpenter, 86, of Zanesville,
died at 11:25 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 26, 2005 at Select Hospital in
Zanesville, following a short illness. She was born on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1919, in Monroe County,
the daughter of Clement and Rebecca J. Stephens Burkhart. She was a homemaker, a loving, caring, mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother and friend. She was a member of St. Nicholas
Catholic Church, the St. John's Auxillary at St. Nicholas Church,
the Pleasant Growers Gardening Club,the Pleasant Evening Social
Group, Ladies Auxillary Knights of Columbus Council 505 and the
Ladies Auxillary Eagles. She is survived by two daughters, Wanda L. Carmichael and
Connie Jo Wilson and her fiancé Lonnie Moore, both of Zanesville;
one son, Stanley W. Carpenter and wife Rose Mary of Howell, Mich.;
seven grandchildren, Doug Geyer, Daffney Geyer, Kelly Lewis, Kent
Carpenter, Rene Lengnick, Kem Wilson and Travis Wilson; nine
great-grandchildren, Wesley Geyer, Andrew Geyer, Madison Geyer,
Monica Lewis, Darren Lewis, Brady "Little Willie" Wilson, Emily
Wilson, Georgi Wilson, and Hannah "Little Audrey" Wilson; and
three sisters, Lillian Mercer of Barnesville, Edna Tepley of East
Lake, and Luzelda Stephens of St. Clairsville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her hus-
band Frank "Willie" Willis Carpenter on June 30, 2002; two sisters,
Virginia Kimble and Hilda Burkhart; three brothers, Everett, Joseph
and Francis Burkhart; and her son-in-law, Frank Carmichael. Friends may call Monday, Aug. 29 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
with Christian Vigil service at 3:30 p.m. and a video tribute being
presented at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Hillis and Hardwick
Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic
Church on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005 at10:30 a.m. with Fr. Leo L.
Connolly as celebrant. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
