Oibituary:
Antoinette Concetta (Jeffries) Meleg, age 82, passed away Thursday evening surrounded by loving family. Born in Canton to the late Carmella Mary (Bocia) and James Jeffries, Ann was the first in her family to graduate, a 1941 graduate of Canton South High School.
She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Ann, always ready with a hug and a kiss, was an independent woman who broke many a tradition- embodying a free spirit. She crossed cultural marriage lines and showed us that love was most important of all, followed by forgiveness. Her patience, true spirituality and courage taught us much. Family was all-important to Ann. Her sisters, her children, nieces and nephews were the staples of her life. Many thrill filled hours were spent in Atlantic City and the Mountaineer where she “just broke even” every time. Ann’s passions were her sisters, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, gambling and food. Many years of direction and life lessons were handed down to the next generation over coffee and cards at the kitchen table. Preparing food for her family was pure enjoyment for her. The more we ate the happier she was. To you Grandma, we eat one last “Special “ Chickachell that means “You love Grandma.” Sleep now, and rest, you deserve it.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers Joseph and Kasmer Jeffries, sisters Rose Sabarese and Mary Andriotti. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Valentino “Bud” Meleg, whom she met on the 4th of July at Myers Lake Park, daughter and son-in-law Mary Ann and Richard Fisher of North Canton, sons and daughter-in-law Jeffrey Meleg of Ellet, Oh. Ronald and Bobbie Meleg of North Canton, grandchildren and spouses Michelle (Fisher) and Keeps Jocas, Rick Fisher, Ryan and Megan Meleg, Derek, Zackary, Jason, Jessica Meleg, Jeffrey Meleg, Jr., great grandchildren Gabriela, Sammy, Joey, Dominic and Marianna Antoinette Jocas, brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Doris Jeffries of Canton, sisters and brothers-in-law Margaret and Ted Haidet, Jennie and Pat Rizzo, Treesa Bressi, Lucy and Herman Haren all of Canton, Pauline Goodman of Massillon, numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Sunday (tonight) from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be sung on Monday at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Nentwick as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
