Henry Matthias Schaad

Henry did not live with his parents and siblings at the time of the 1900 census. In 1900, Henry Schaad (24) (Feb 1876) lived with his widowed aunt Mary Struif and her children in a mortgaged home she owned at 117 Camp Avenue, Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Henry was born in Ohio as were his parents.

In 1910, 35 year old farmer Henry M. Schoad lived with his wife Anna S. (35) on a farm they owned in Waterford Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children Catherine M. Zewe (13), Joseph H. (6), Alfred J. (4), Marie M. (1) and Florence C. (1 mo.). Henry and Catherine had been married for 8 years. Henry and his parents were born in Ohio as were the 3 younger children. Anna and her parents were born in Germany; Catherine and Joseph were born in Pennsylvania; Catherine's father was born in Germany. Only Catherine attended school.

On Sep. 12, 1918, 42 year old self employed farmer, Henry Matius Schaad (dob Feb 8, 1876) of Waterford, Washington Co., Ohio registered for the military draft in Washington Co., Ohio. According to his draft registration card, his nearest relative was Anne Schaad also of Waterford, Wahington Co., Ohio. His physical description is given as medium height, slender build, with blue eyes and brown hair.

In 1920, farmer Henry Schaad lived in Waterford Twp., Washington County, Ohio with his wife Annie (45) and children Joseph (16), Alfred (14), Marie (11), Florence (9), Margaret (8), Paul (5), and Robert (3). The oldest five children attended school. Joseph was born in Pennsylvania; all the other children were born in Ohio.

At the time of the 1930 census, 54 year old farmer Henry M. Schaad and his wife Anna P. (55) owned a farm on Rural Route 1, Waterford Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. According to the census, Henry was 25 at the time of his first marriage and Anna was 19. (This was Anna's second marriage) Living with them were their children Alfred J. (24), Margaret A. (18), Paul J. (16) and Robert W. (14). Paul and Robert attended school; Alfred worked as a farm laborer. Henry and the children were born in Ohio as were Henry's parents. Anna and her parents were born in Germany. The family owned a radio.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schaad and sons Alfred, Paul and Robert and daughter Margaret of Waterford; attended the annual Schott reunion on Sunday, July 30, 1933 at the fairgrounds in Marietta, Ohio. See notes of Jacob Schott for a complete list of attendees.

Henry M. Schaad's obituary appeared in Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on Jan 12, 1960: CALDWELL -- Henry M. Schaad, 83, of nearby Belle Valley
died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Hospital, Marietta, after
a lingering illness. Mr. Schaad was born Feb. 8, 1876, in Washington County to
Jacob and Catherine Rupple Schaad. He was a retired farmer
and had lived in Belle valley for the past five years. He was a
member of the Corpus Christi Catholic church there. Surviving are three sons, Joseph Schaad of Wellston, Paul
of Belle Valley and Robert of Coal Run; two daughters, Miss
Margaret Schaad of Canton and sister Mary Justin, a teacher
at St. Joseph's School in Akron; a step daughter, Catherine
Stodghill of Canton; seven grandchildren and a brother, Frank
Schaad of Lowell. A son, Alfred and his wife preceded him in
death. The body was removed to the Estadt Funeral Home here
where members of the Holy Name Society will recite the
rosary at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at
the Corpus Christi Church with Msgr. Ambrose W. Schilling,
the Rev. Father Stephen Pekalla and the Rev. Father James
Dirker officiating. Burial will be at Beverly Cemetery.


Anna Sophia Peter

In 1900, 25 (Nov 1874) year old widow Anna Zewe (Zeive?) lived with her daughter Katherine (3 - Jun 1896) in the home of her parents, Valentine and Margaret Peters, at 207 Camp Ave., Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Also living in the home were her 4 siblings.


According to the 1920 census, Anna came to America in 1889.


Alfred John Schaad

Alfred J. Schaad never married.


Marie Philomena Schaad

Marie enterend the convent and took the name Sister Mary Justin. According to her father's obituary, she was a teacher at St. Joseph's School in Akron.


Florence Catherine Schaad

Florence Schaad's obituary appeared in the Beverly Dispatch on December 12. 1921
SCARLET FEVER PROVES FATAL
Florence Katherine Schaad, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Schaad, of the Salem neighborhood succumbed
to and attack of scarlet fever, Wednesday after an illness
of only two days. She was born April 13, 1910, and was
therefore 11 years, eight months and eight days of age.
The parents, seven brothers and sisters survive. There
is one other case of scarlet fever in the home at his
time which does not at present seem serious. Burial
which was private was made in Beverly Cemetery and
conducted by Father Zuber pastor of St. Bernard’s
Church, on Thursday morning L. A. Dixon , funeral
director


Margaret Anna Schaad

Margaret Schaad never married. She lived in Canton, Ohio.


Paul Jacob Schaad

In an unlucky coincidence, Paul Schaad and his cousin, Ralph Schaad died on the same day.

Paul J. Schaad, age 87, of Altercare of Canton, died Thursday morning in Mercy Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Beverly, Ohio, he lived in Canton for over 50 years with his late sister, Margaret A. Schaad. He had been employed at Ewing Chevrolet, and Bob's Diner. In his retirement he was a school safety crossing guard having worked at the corner of 10th and Shorb for 13 years. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. St. Peter's Holy Name/Men's Club, and St. Peter's Alter and Rosary Society. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church with Msgr. John C. Finnigan as celebrant. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Beverly Cemetery in Beverly, Ohio. Friends may call Sunday evening from 7-9 p.m. in the Wackerly Funeral Home. The St. Peter's Holy Name/ Men's Club will hold a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. in the funeral home.


John Andrew Schaad

In 1910, John Schaad (28) lived with his wife of one year, Philomena (20) on a farm they owned in Watertown Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. Living with them was their 3 month old daughter Helen. All members of the household were born in Ohio as were John's parents and Philomena's mother. Philomena's father was born in Germany.

On September 12, 1918, 37 year old farmer John Andrew Schaad (dob: January 26, 1881) of RD#1, Watertown, Washington Co., Ohio registered for the military draft. His draft registration card lists Mrs. Philomena Schaad of RD#!, Watertown, Washinton Co., Ohio as his nearest relative. His physical description is given as tall, medium build, with blue eyes and light hair.

In the 1920 census, 38 year old farmer "John Schott" lived in Waterton Twp., Washington Co., Ohio with his wife Philomena (30) and children Helen (10), Mildred (8), Mary (3), and John (8 mos). Helen and Mildred attended school. One of the adjacent farms in the census belonged to George (64) and Lillie (52) Strahler. The relationship between Philomena Strahler and George Strahler is not known.

John Schaad's obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on April 25, 1928: STOCKPORT, O., April 24 -- John Schaad, 47, a highly
respected and successful farmer, died Saturday night at
his home here. He was brought home Friday from Marietta
hospital where he was operated upon for appendicitis a
few weeks ago. He was a member of the Catholic church at Beverly and
resided in that vicinity before moving to Stockport where he
had made many friends and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife and six children, Helen, Mildred,
Mary Margaret, John Jr., Eloise and Earl, all of the home,
also the following brothers and sister, Frank Schaad and
Peter Schaad, Lowell; Henry Schaad and Mrs. Rose Strahler,
Waterford, and Mrs. Catherine Barth of Marietta. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning and interment
made in Beverly cemetery.


Philomena Strahler

According to the 1920 census, Philomena's father and mother were born in Germany and Ohio, respectively.

According to the 1930 Census, 40 year old widow Phiolmena Schaad lived on a farm she owned in Windsor Township, Stockport Town, Morgan County, Ohio with her children Helen (20), Mildred (18), Mary W. (13), John F. (10), Eloise (6), Earl (4). , and Donald (8 mos.). Mildred, Mary W., John F., and Eloise attended school. Philomena and her older children could read and write. Philomena and her children were all born in Ohio. Philomena's occupation was listed as farmer (general farming) and Helen's as a farm laborer. Living with Philomena and her children were her father, 64 year old James Strahler and her 48 year old brother George. James and George's occupation is listed as farm laborer. James and his parents were born in Germany, George was born in Ohio. The household owned a radio.

The following appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on August 1, 1940: Mrs. Philomena Schaad had as her Sunday guests her
father and brother, George and James Strahler, of Waterford,
and her three daughters, Miss Mary Margaret Schaad, of
Marietta; Mrs. Harold Offenberger, of Lowell, and Sister
Joseph Aloysius, of Wheeling, W. Va. On August 6, sister
Joseph Aloysius will go to Fairmont, W. Va.

Philomena Strahler Schaad's obituary appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on May 17, 1950 MRS. SCHAAD, 60, DIES AT MARIETTA STOCKPORT -- Mrs. Philomena Schaad, 60, wife of the
late John A. Schaad,died in Memorial hospital, Marietta,
Monday evening. She was born in Waterford and spent
her early life there. The greater part of their married life was spent in Stockport.
During the past two years she had lived in Marietta. She is
survived by seven children. Sr. Joseph Aloysius of the Sisters
of St. Joseph of Wheeling, W. Va.; Mrs. Harold Offenberger
of Lowell; Mrs. Charles B. Schlicher and Donald Schaad of
Marietta; John and Earl of Stockport, and Miss Elouise
Schaad of the home; three sisters and two brothers, Mrs.
Dorothy Rupple of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. Mary Heiss and
Mrs. John Offenberger of Marietta; Joseph Strahler of
Waterford and George Strahler of the home, and 11
grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at St. Marys Catholic church,
Marietta, Friday morning at 9 o'clock. The body will remain
at Weiser-Cawley Funeral home until time for the service.


Helen Clare Schaad

Helen Schaad entered the convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Wheeling, WV and took the name Sister Joseph Aloysius.

The following article appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal on December 3, 1936 FAREWELL PARTY FOR MISS SCHAAD Stockport Girl to Enter Novitiate at Wheeling Stockport, O., Dec. 3. -- The Altar society of St. James parish, McConnelsville came with well baskets and gave a farewell surprise party Tuesday evening in honor of Miss Helen Schaad at her home in Stockport. Miss Schaad is leaving December 7 to enter the Novitiate of the Order of St. Joseph at Wheeling, W. Va. This is an order of nuns following the nursing profession with hospitals in Wheeling, Parkersburg, Clarksburg and Charleston, W. Va.
The following guests were present: Rev. Father L. B. Preston, who was Miss Schaad's former pastor, Mrs. Mary Singer, Misses Ella and Bertha Biedenbach, Mrs. Ceila Bacon, Mrs. T. J. McHugh, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Morris and daughter, Genevieve, Mrs. William Huck and daughter, Jean; Mrs. Mary Walder, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Smith, Miss Frances Schott, Mrs. George Kenney, Mrs. Joseph Biedenbach and daughter, Virginia; Mrs. Tavenner, Mrs. James Flanagan and Earl Moore.
The evening was spent in card playing, music and social conversation.


Peter Henry Schaad

In 1910, 26 year old farmer Peter Schott lived with his wife Mary (22) owned a farm in Adams Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. Living with them was their son William (12 mos). All members of the household and Peter's mother were born in Ohio; Peter's father was born in Pennsylvania ; and Mary's parents in Germany. Peter and Mary had been married for 2 years and William was the only child born to Mary.

On September 12, 1918, 35 year old farmer, Peter Henry Schaad (dob: July 8, 1883) of Rt4, Lowell, Washington co., Ohio registered for the military draft. His draft registration card lists Mrs. Peter Schaad of Lowell as his nearest relative. His physical description is given as tall, medium build, with blue eyes and black hair.

At the time of the 1920 census, 36 year old farmer Peter H. Schaad and his wife Mary (32) still owned a farm in Adams Twp. Living with them were their William (10), Ralph (8), Hilda (6), Viola (4 yrs 0 mos), and Walter (1 yr 11 mos). William, Ralph and Hilda attended school. All members of the household as well as Peter and Mary's parents were born in Ohio.

In 1930, farmer, Peter H. Schaad (46) owned a farm worth $700 in Adams Township. Living with Peter was his wife, Mary F. (42), and his children William G. (20), Ralph F. (18), Hilda J. (16), Viola M. (14), Walter F. (12) and Mary A. (9). Based on census data, Peter and Mary had been married for 22 years. Viola, Walter and Mary attended school the previous year. All members of the household could read and write except Mary. Everyone in the family was born in Ohio as were Peter's parents. Mary F.'s parents were born in Pennsylvania. Peter's occupation is listed as farmer. Wiiliam and Ralph's occupation is given as farm laborer. The family did not own a radio.

An article on page 12 of the The Zanesville Times Recorder on 25 Aug 1938 titled "Ruppel Family Reunion" lists attendees Peter Schaad and children Viola, Mary, Anna, and Walter...[of] Lowell.

On April 27, 1942, self employed Peter Henry Schaad (58, dob: Julu 8, 1883, pob: Washington Co., Ohio) of RFD4, Lowell, Washington co., Ohio registered for the military draft. His draft registration card lists Mrs. Mary Schaad of Lowell, Ohio as the person who would always know his address. His physical description is given as: height: 5'8", weight: 147#, eyes: hazel, hair: gray, complexion: Ruddy.


George William Schaad

George William Schaad never married.

In 1920, 16 year old Raliegh Barth lived with his parents in Fearing Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. He was employed as a farmer.

In 1920, 22 year old Rosie Barth lived with her parents in Fearing Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. She was employed as a laborer is a rubber shop.


Ervin Barth

In 1930, 24 year old Ervin Barth lived with his wife Rose (19) in part of a house they rented for $30 per month at 7031 S. Lincoln St., Chicago, cook Co., Illinois. They had been married for 1 year. Ervin woked as a tester in a pipe mill. Ervin and Rose were both born in Ohio as were Ervin's parents. Rose's father was born in Pennsylvania and her mother in Austria. They owned a radio.
