Barbara Schumacher

Barbara Schumacher Spangler’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 1 Sep 1964:
WOODSFIELD - Mrs. Barbara Spangler, 82, of South Main street died at 2:30 a.m. (DST) Monday in Mount Carmel Hospital, Columbus after an illness of a few weeks.
She was born March 8, 1882, at Woodsfield, a daughter of George and Mary Weisend Schumacher.
Mrs. Spangler was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Altar Society and Catholic Women’s Club.
Surviving are her husband, Otto Spangler of Columbus; three step-daughters, Mary O. Spangler of Columbus, Sister Joseph Damien and Sister Mary Michael of St. Mary of the Springs, Columbus; a sister, Mrs. B. F. Paulus of Woodsfield; and a brother, John Schumacher of Woodsfield.
Requiem high mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. (DST) Thursday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Robert Brown officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. (DST) Wednesday at Bauer-Turner funeral home here. Friends may call after 7 p.m. (DST) today at the funeral home.


John T. Spangler

In 1870, John Spangler (30) and his wife Mary (27) lived in Summit Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with their son Joseph (1). John and his son were born in Ohio; Mary was a native of France. John's real estate was valued at $6300 and his personal property was worth $1067, making him by far the wealthiest man on that page of the census. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to George Wyscent and Matthias Rucker. George Wyscent had a 20 year old farm hand named Francis Spangler. The relationship between John and Francis Spangler is not known at this time.

In 1880, John Spangler (40) lived in Summit Twp. with his wife Mary (30), and children Joseph (10), Perlena (8), Josephine (6), Theodore (3), and Otto P. (3 months). Joseph, Perlena, and Josephine attended school. John was born in Ohio to Germa-born parents.

John's wife Mary aged only three years between the 1870 census and the 1880 census. It is not known if these were two different women, or one woman who was reluctant to give her real age.


Mary Marguerite Gambs

In 1900, Mary M. Spangler was a 58 year old widow who owned a farm in Summit Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio. Living with her were her children, Theodore J. (22), Otto P. (20), Clemens J. (18), Egnatius C. (13), Josie M. (25); her widowed mother-in-law Mary A. Spangler (84), and her unmarried sister-in-law, Philomena M. Spangler (43). According to the census, Mary M. Spangler had given birth to 7 children, all of whom were still living. Her mother-in-law, Mary A. Spangler, had given birth to 11 children, six of whom died before 1900. The two Marys were both natives of Germany; everyone else in the family was born in Ohio. Mary M. came to America in 1853. Mary A.'s year of immigration was 1832.

At the time of the 1910 census, Mary Spangler (68) owned a farm on Summerfield Road in Summit Twp. with her son Ignatius (24), niece Clara (15) and grandchildren Mary E. (10) and Edward (5). Mary was a widow; everyone else was single. Mary was a native og Germany; everyone else was born in Ohio. Ignatius' father was also from Ohio, according to the census. Mary had given birth to 7 children, all of whom were still living in 1910.

In 1920, 78 year old Mary M. Spangler owned a farm in Summit Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Living with her were her married grandchildren, Mary E. (20) and Frank J. Yontz (32).

Mary Spangler’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Signal on 7 Apr 1927:
AGED WOMAN DIES
The death of Mrs. Mary Spangler, 85, widow of T. J. Spangler, occurred
early Wednesday at the Columbia hotel where she has been making her
home for the past few years with her son Otto and daughter, Miss Josephine
Spangler. Her death was caused by cancer from which she had been a
sufferer for several years.
The deceased lived most of her life in the Burkhart vicinity and was every
highly esteemed by all who knew her. She is survived in addition to the son
and daughter mentioned above, by two sons, Theodore Spangler of Burkhart
and Joseph Spangler of Miltonsburg. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs.
Lena Miller, of Lakeshires, La (?), and two brothers, Peter Gambs of Florida
and John Gambs of Columbus.
The latter was a resident of Summerfield for some time and was employed
by the late Stephen Wilson in the tannery and harness making business.
The funeral services of Mrs. Spangler will be held in the Woodsfield Catholic
church after which the body will be brought to the Burkhart Catholic church,
where final services will be conducted by Rev. Mark Campbell. Interment will
be made in the church cemetery.

Josephine M. Spangler

In 1900, 25 year old unmarried Josie M. Spangler lived in the home of her widowed mother. She was employed in the millnery trade.

Josephine Spangler’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Signal on 28 Mar 1946:
FUNERAL SATURDAY FOR MISS SPANGLER
Funeral services for Miss Josephine Spangler, 71, of Burkhart in
Monroe county will be held at 10 o’clock Saturday morning at St.
Joseph Catholic Church at Burkhart with burial in that place.
Miss Spangler died Wednesday evening in Good Samaritan
hospital following a brief illness. She was admitted to the hospital
Monday. Miss Spangler was born in Burkhart, the daughter of John
and Mary Gambs Spangler.
Surviving are two brothers, Otto Spangler of Woodsfield and
Theodore Spangler of Burkhart and several nieces and nephews.
The body is at Mader Peoples funeral home where friends may
call until Friday morning when it will be moved to the brother’s resi-
dence in Burkhart.


Clemmens Isadore Spangler

On 12 Sep 1918, Clemmence Isadore Spangler (35) registered for the US military draft. According to the draft registration card Clemmence was married, but his wife's name is not give. Clemmence was a self-employed merchant. He was described as being tall, of medium build with black eyes and black hair. Clemmence died less than a month after registering for the draft.

Brothers Clemmens and Ignatius Spangler died within a few days of each other in October 1918. The cause of their deaths is unknown.

John Ambrose Schumacher

Misses Ruth and Esther Schumacher, James Overman and August Scheiderer,
Columbus, were recent guests of the Misses Schumachers’ parents, Mr. and Mrs.
John A. Schumacher and family, east Woodsfield.

John Shumacher's obituary appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 02 Jul 1969:
Woodsfield -- John A. Schumacher, 83, of Woodsfield, a retired farmer and house
painter, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday (July 1) following a six-month illness. Born near
Woodsfield Aug. 9 1885, he was a son of George and Mary Weisend Schumacher.
He was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church and its Holy Name and Purgatorial
societies.
Surviving are two sons, Alfred of Woodsfield and John of Pittsburgh, Pa; three
daughters, Mrs. Ruth Meyers of Potosi, Mo., Mrs. Esther Foskill of Hartford, Conn,
and Mrs. Grace Lynch of Pittsbirgh, Pa; 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
His wife, Mary Glesenkamp Schumacher, died in 1940.
Friends may call at Michener Funeral Home in Woodsfield. Rosary will be recited at
8:30 p.m. Thursday. Requiem mass will be solemnized at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Sylvester
Church with Monsignor Robert A. Brown officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.


Mary Glessenkamp

Mary Glessenkamp Schumacher’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Signal on 14 Sep 1940:
MRS. SCHUMACHER DIES IN MONROE CO.
WOODSFIELD - Mrs. John A. Schumacher, 60, died suddenly Friday at her home east of Woodsfield. She suffered a stroke from which she never rallied.
She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Misses Ruth and Esther Schumacher, of Columbus; Miss Grace, of the home; two sons, John Martin Schumacher of the home, and Alfred Schumacher, of near the home; one grandchild; two brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Schumacher was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Glessenkamp, her father being a former commissioner of Monroe County.

Michael Neuhart

In 1880, 63 year old farmer Michael Neuhardt lived in Summit Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with his wife Hannah (61) and sons Fredrick (21) and Henry (18). Henry, who was disabled, attended school. The nature of Henry's disability was not detailed in the census, but the column "Maimed, crippled, bedridden, or otherwise disabled" was checked off.


George E. Neuhart

In 1930, George E. Neuhart (30) rented part of a house at 1711 Miriam St. in Swissvale, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Living with him were his wife Lusetta (29), and children Lusetta (8), George Jr. (6), Paul (3 yrs 8 mos) and Rosemary (1 yr 6 mos. Everyone was a native of Pennsylvania except George, who was from Ohio. George worked as a barber. The Neuhart family owned a radio set.

According to the 1930 census, Marie's father and mother were from Ohio and the Irish Free State, respectively. Her rmother's maiden name was McGuire, according to her death record.

Matilda F. Staudt

Lawrence F. Staudt

Occupation: Automotive Assembler, Plymouth Div., Chrysler Corp. Residence: Utica, Michigan

In the 1930 census, Lawrence Staudt was enumerated in the household of his married sister, Matilda Deyak. Also living in the home were Lawrence's father Adam and brother Benjamin, as well as Matilda's husband Anthony and son Benjamin. Lawrence Staudt was listed as being married, but his wife did not live in the household.


Adelade Schulte

In the 1930 census, Adelaide Staudt was listed as a divorced mother of Lawrence Staudt (1) living with her married sister, Angeline Chounard in Detroit, Michigan.
