John Theodore Thoma

John Thoma has not been found in the 1910 census.

On 12 Sep 1918, 41 year old John Theodore Thoma of 515 Light, Marietta, Ohio registered for the U.S. military draft in Washington County, Ohio. His birth date was given as August 26, 1877. John stated that he worked as a carpenter for Carmichael Construction Company in Akron, Ohio. His nearest relative was his wife, Cecelia Singer Thoma of the same address in Marietta. John was described as being of medium height and build with blue eyes and dark hair.

In 1920, John L. Thoma (42) and his wife Ceclia (42) rented a home at 134 S. Brooklyn St. in the second ward of Akron, Ohio. Living with them was their daughter, Mary (10), who attended school. Everyone in the household was a native of Ohio, as were Ceclia's parents. John's parents were from Pennsylvania. John was employed as a carpenter.

By the time of the 1930 census, John Thoma (52) had returned to Washington County, Ohio. He and his wife of 26 years, Cecelia (52) lived in Muskingum Twp. with their adopted daughter, Mary (21). John worked as a carpenter.

Death certificate informant was Henry Christy (relationship unknown).


Agnes Cecilia Singer

and covers were laid for Rev. Fr. H.A. Estadt of Columbus, Mrs. Laura Schweinberg of
Pittsburegh, Pa., Mrs. Cecelia Tuma of Marietta, and Mrs. Joseph Estadt, Matilda and
Clarence J. Estadt and Miss Marguerite Noll, all of Caldwell.

The death certificate of Cecelia Agnes Singer Thoma identifies her mother's name as Otillia Blake Singer, a native of Pennsylvania. Death certificate informant was John Thoma.


Mary Jo Thoma

In the 1930 census, Mary Thoma (21) was listed as the adopted daughter of John and Cecelia Thoma in Muskingum Twp., Washington Co., OH. Mary worked as a nurse in a hospital.


Charles Cawley

In 1910, 35 year old farm laborer Charles Cawley and his family were boarders on the farm of William and Margaret Gallagher on Five Mile Run Road in Union District, Wood County, West Virginia. The Cawley family consisted if Charles, his wife, Martha (30), and their children Alice (3) and William (1 yr 9 mos). According to the census, both of Charles' parents were natives of Ireland. Martha did not know where her parents were born.

At the time of the 1920 census, Charles (49) and Martha Cawley (39) lived on a farm in Union District with their children Alice (13), William (11), Anes (5) and Mary E. (1). The three oldest children attended school. The 1920 census states that Charles and Martha's parents were born in West Virginia.

In 1930, Charles Cawley (59) and his wife Martha (50) owned a farm in Union District. Living with them were their children Mary E. (11) and Paul (6), and a 16 year old farm hand from Montana, Raymond Richards. Only Mary attended school. The Cawley family did not own a radio set (nor did any of their neighbors).

In 1920, 31 year old farmer Romane F. Singer lived on a rented farm in Warren Twp., Washington Co., Ohio with his wife Anna (28). Living with them is a 35 year old widow named Doty Schodd who is mis-identified as Roman's daughter. Everyone in the house was born in Ohio, as were their parents.

In 1930, Ernest J. Singer (35) and his wife Mary E. (25) rented a home for $30 a month in Prestonburg, Floyd County, Kentucky. Living with them were their two children Bobby J. (5) and Douglas H. (1 yr 8 mos). Ernest was employed as a machinist for a gas company. Ernest and Mary were both born in Ohio, as were their parents. The children were born in Kentucky. The Singer family owned a radio set.


Mary Elizabeth Koch

Social security number issued in West Virginia or North Carolina prior to 1951. According to grandson Stephen Singer, Lura was of the Lutheran faith. The children were brought up Lutheran.


Francis Jacob Muth

Francis and Lulu Muth lived in Wheeling, WV. Frank operated a bar there. They had no children. They raised a boy named Joseph Michael Gorman who was a relation of Lulu's family, but the exact nature of the relationship is unknown. Joseph spent was a career warrant officer in the US Navy.

Mary Louvina Muth

Louvina moved to Pittsburgh in 1901 to help her uncle Kaspar Muth. She had learned a trade as a dressmaker in Marietta, Ohio. Her mother said she was to learn a trade as she was not to work as a domestic and be someone`s slave. (J. Wright)


William Henry Muth

William H. Muth was a prominent businessman in the Ohio Valley. He was a principal in several business operations including the Huntington Hardwood Corp., Georgetown Gallery, Mason Furniture Mfg Co. William Muth was on the board of the First Huntington National Bank, the lay board of St. Mary Hospital and others. He was also instrumental in bringing the sisters from the Pallotine order to Huntington, which was an order of German nuns.

Mr. Mapple (Marple) C. Davison and Miss Leona Muth, two well known people of this city, were united in marriage at the St. Marys parsonage Thursday evening by Rev. F.M. Woesman.
The bridal couple were attended by Miss Nora DeTemple and Mr. Leon Moses and after the ceremony all went to the new home of Mr. & Mrs. Davison on Second Street. There a number of their friends were there to greet them. An elegant wedding supper was served.
Mrs. Davison is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Muth, and is quite well known. Mr. Davison is one of hte efficient employees of the Hinds & Gailey garage.

Rinehart Anthonia Muth

Rinehart lost his left eye as a result of smallpox at the age of 18. He wore a glass eye, and later the new plastic type.

Rinehart went to Pittsburgh with his sister Louvina after his Aunt Meline died in 1906. Meline was the wife of Anton Muth's brother, Casper. Rinehart ran his uncle's store until he sold all the merchandise, which took about a year. He then went back to Marietta where he and his brothers struck out on their own in the lumber business as partners. Their sister Louvina remained in Pittsburgh.

Rinehart Muth changed the spelling of his name to Rinard after moving to Huntington, WV. After their marriage by Rev. H.B. Altmeyer, Rinard and Agnes set up housekeeping in Pikesville, Kentucky where Rinard worked as a lumber buyer and inspector at the Penn Table Company in which he owned stock. Rinard was a buyer of Appalachian hardwood for most of his life. He was the general manager of the Huntington Hardwood Corporation after selling his interests to his brother William H. Muth.

Rineard Muth, William H. Muth, a Mrs. Burns, and a Mr. Baker owned the North East Lumber Company, which was a principle supplier of the Penn Table Company. The Muth brothers then sold out to Mrs. Burns and Mr. Baker, and formed their own company, the Huntington Hardwood Company.

Rinard was called "Uncle Joe" to the people in the mountains where he was well known as a buyer of hardwood logs and lumber. He had the reputation of being the best skilled log and lumber inspector in the territory. In 1927, Rinard brought the last large raft of logs down the Big Sandy River during flood time. After that time, railroads completely took over moving logs from the mountains to the Ohio River Valley.

Rinard raised Partridge Plymouth Rock chickens as a hobby. He showed his prize chickens in many fairs and poultry shows, including Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1950, the Oklahoma State Fair, the Atlantic City Fair, the Ohio State Fair, and many others. He belonged to the National Club for Partridge Plymouth Rock Chickens.

Rinard was a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus. He was awarded a pin and a cane in 1964. He donated a stained glass window at Sacred Heart Church in Huntington, WV.


John Joseph Cornett

Dr. T. Singer gives date of death as "1929," and says "Moved to Braddock, Allegheny Co., PA in 1892."

This source states that John was a carpenter who attended private & public schools in Noble Co., OH and moved to Braddock in 1877. Lives at 610 Fourth Ave for "past 17 years." (date of book aft. 1894). Democrat, Catholic.

Church notes from Immaculate Conception, Fulda, Noble Co.OH state that the family "moved away in 1887."

In 1900, John Cornett (40) and his wife Catherine (42) owned a mortgaged home at 610 Fourth St. in Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Living in the household were their children Clara (18), Cornelius (16), Anna B. (14) and William (13). Only William attended school. John's unmarried brother Joseph (28) also lived with the family. John and his brother were carpenters.

At the time of the 1910 census, John J. Cornett (50) and his wife of 28 years, Katherine (52) owned the home at 610 Fourth St. free and clear. Other members of the household were their unmarried children Clara M. (28) and William (23), as well as their married daughter, Anna Crock (24), and her husband Leo (26). John Cornett was a carpenter for a contracting company.

In 1920, John J. Cornett and his wife Catherine lived at 610 Fourth Street, Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Also living in the house were their daughter Clara (35), widowed son-in-law 35 year old Leo Crock and his daughter Catherine (7 yrs 11 mos). Catherine attended school. Leo worked as a commercial auditor; John as a carpenter in the steel works; and Clara as a saleswoman in a dry goods store. All of the adults in the home were born in Ohio as were Leo's parents. Catherine was born in Pennsylvania.


Catherine B. Burkhart

According to the 1900 and 1910 census, four of Kate Cornett's five children were still living.

In 1930, 72 year old widow Catherine Cornett lived in a home she owned (value $7500) at 610 Fourth St. in Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Living with her was her unmarried daughter Clara M. (48) who worked as a sales lady in a shoe store. According to the census, both women were born in Ohio; Catherine's parents were born in Germany as was Clara's father. The family owned a radio.

Clara M. Cornett

In 1900, Clara lived with her parents and younger siblings in Braddock, PA. She was employed as a clerk at Norton's. She still lived with her parents 20 years later. At that time, she worked as a saleslady in a department store.

At the time of the 1930 cenus, Clara lived with her widowed mother in Braddock. She was employed as a sales lady in a shoe store.

Clara never married. Social Security Death Index indicates that the last residence was in West Virginia.


Minnie Cornett

Minnie is not listed with the family in the 1900 census.
