Carl Frederick Pfeffer

Carl Pfeffer's obituary appeared on page 16 of The Zanesville [Ohio] Signal on 03 Nov 1944:

WOODSFIELD --Funeral services for Carl Frederick
Pfeffer will be held Saturday morning in St. Mary's Catholic
Church at Temperanceville with Father Joseph Heilman
in charge. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.
Mr. Pfeffer died in the North Wheeling hospital Monday
afternoon from a brain concussion which developed after
he fell and struck his head, Monday noon.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Schumacher Pfeffer and
three children, Diane, Herbert, and Judith, and by his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Pfeffer of Temperanceville, and one
brother, Joseph, and two sisters, Mrs. Walter Schumacher of
Woodsfield and Miss Carol Pfeffer of Temperanceville.


Gladys Marcelline Schumacher

Gladys was living in Woodsfield, Monroe Co., Ohio in 1995. Gladys' first two husbands, Carl Pfeffer and James Wahl were third cousins, once removed.


James Peter Wahl

In 1930, 23 year old James Wahl lived with his married sister, Mary Wahl Eisenhauer (25) at 91 Lynnwood Ave., Wheeling WV. James was employed as a meat cutter in a grocery. His brother-in-law, Charles Eisenhauer (26), managed a retail grocery.

Gladys was living in Woodsfield, Monroe Co., Ohio in 1995. Gladys' first two husbands, Carl Pfeffer and James Wahl were third cousins, once removed.


Diane Dorothy Pfeffer

The Zanesville Times Signal printed a photo of Diane Pfeffer on 20 Jun 1940 along with the following article:
DIANE PFEFFER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pfeffer, of
near Temperanceville, celebrated her third birthday at the
home of her parents Sunday [16 Jun 1940]. A birthday
dinner was served with covers being laid for a number of
relatives. Diane is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.
A. Schumacher of Woodsfield and Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Pfeffer
of Temperanceville. She is the great-granddaughter of Mrs.
Caroline Burkhart of Neil avenue, Zanesville.

According to the Zanesville Signal, Diane Pfeffer was a member of the "Harmonettes" (along with Peggy Saffle, Charlotte Burkhart and Charlotte Walter). They performed "Blue Moon" at the annual spring concert at Woodsfield High School on Tuesday, May 12, 1953.

Herbert Anthony Pfeffer

WOODSFIELD -- A son was born July 19th to Mr.
and Mrs. Fritz Pfeffer of Temperanceville, at the
home of the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
S.A. Schumacher, near Woodsfield. The child has
been named Herbert Anthony. Mr. and Mrs. E.J.
Pfeffer of Temperanceville are the paternal grand-
parents. The mother was formerly Miss Gladys
Schumacher.

Banns Are Published at the Catholic Church Sunday Morning
Banns were published Sunday for the marriage of Miss Clara J. Malone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Malone, 1036 Eastman street, to Henry Synan, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Synan, 926 Vine street, which will take place at 7:45 o’clock Monday morning, Feb 8, in St. Nicholas church .
The nuptial mass will be read by Rev. Father Joseph Bender, assistant pastor of St. Nicholas, and Miss Rita Malone and Richard Synan will attend the young couple.
Miss Malone is a graduate of St. Nicholas high school and is a member of the Blessed Virgin Sodality of the church. She is a member of Sigma Delta Pi sorority and is employed at the J. J. Newberry store.
Mr. Synan has accepted a new position with the Roekel company. He was graduated from St. Thomas high school and is a member of St. Thomas Catholic church.

SYNANS MARRIED 40 YEARS
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Synan of 210 Anthony Ln are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary today.
Mrs. Synan, the former Clara Malone, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Malone of 1036 Eastman St. Mr. Synan is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Synan.
The Synans have five children: Mrs. Jack (Mary Ann) Armstrong and Mrs. William (Patricia) Potter, both of Coshocton, Mrs. Bob (Jane) Dutro of South Bend, Ind., Daniel of Troy and Joseph of Pittsburgh, Pa.
They have 13 grandchildren.
Mr. Synan has been an employee of the Roekel Company for 40 years. He and Mrs. Synan are members of St. Nicholas Catholic church and the Zanesville Country Club. Mrs. Synan is a member of the Good Samaritan Charity Circle.
An open house to honor the anniversary has been postponed indefinitely.


Rita M. Malone

The engagement announcement of Rita Malone and John Wagner appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 4 Apr 1949

RITA M. MALONE SELECTS DATE
Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Malone of 1036 Eastman street announce the approaching April wedding of their daughter, Rita M., to John W. Wagner, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. O. Wagner of 1246 Eastman street. The ceremony will be solemnized at 10:30 o’clock on the morning of April 233 in St. Nicholas Catholic church.
Miss Malone is employed at the General Electric company. She is a member of Sigma Delta Pi sorority.
Mr. Wagner is employed at the Detroit Harvester company. He is a veteran of World War II and is a member of the naval reserves. Both young people are graduates St. Nicholas high school and members of that church.

Richard Andrew Quinn

The wedding announcement of Regina Malone and Richard Quinn was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 23 Jun 1947

MALONE-QUINN VOWS REPEATED HERE SATURDAY
Saturday morning in St. Nicholas Catholic church, Miss Regina Malone and Richard Andrew Quinn exchanged marriage vows. The double ring service was read by Rev. Father Francis Schweitzer.
The bride’s sister, Miss Mary Malone of Washington, D.C. was maid of honor and Paul Quinn, the bridegroom’s brother, was best man. Joe Quinn, brother of the bridegroom, and Henry Synan, brother-in-law of the bride, seated the guests.
The bride’s gown of white satin was fashioned with a sweetheart neckline and long close fitting sleeves. Her short wedding veil was caught with orange blossoms and she carried an all white bouquet. Her sister wore Nile green marquisette with a matching picture hat. Her bouquet was fashioned with multi-colored summer blossoms.
Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Malone of Eastman street, parents of the bride-elect, were hosts at a reception in their home following the wedding. Assistants receiving the 74 guests were Miss Mary Louise Haren, Miss Ruth Burkhart, Miss Janet Baker and Miss Nancy Burkhart.
When the couple left for a wedding trip the bride was wearing a black frock with black and white accessories and a white orchid.
Guests from out of town included Miss Kathleen Reardon of Kansas City, Miss Margaret Leitner of Washington, D.C., Miss Rita Malone of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pfeffer and Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Pfeffer of Barnesville.
Mr. Quinn is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Quinn of North Fifth street and is a student at Ohio Sate university.

Richard Quinn's social security number was issued in Ohio prior to 1951.


James Robert Quinn

On 20 Sep 1953, the “Kiddie Karavan” photo spread in the Zanesville Signal contained photos of Jane Synan and James Quinn accompanied by the following caption:

Jane Clare Synan and James Robert Quinn are cousins. Jane is the 16 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry D. Synan, 1203 Wheeling avenue. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Malone, 1036 Eastman street and Mrs. William Synan of Clyde Court. James Robert Quinn is the 6 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Quinn, Memphis, Tenn. Grandparents of this youngster are Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Quinn, 310 North Fifth street and Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Malone, 1036 Eastman street.

Alma G. Malone

The wedding announcement of Alma Malone and Donald Miller appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 30 Apr 1944:

MISS ALMA MALONE IS WED TO PFC. DONALD MILLER
Miss Alma Malone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas J. Malone, 1036 Eastman street was married at 8 o’clock Saturday morning in St. Nicholas Catholic church to Pfc. Donald Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Miller of Moxahala avenue. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Michael Wellnitz.
Carrying a white orchid on a white bound prayerbook, the bride entered the church in a gown of white satin with lace inserts. Her veil was fingertip length.
Mrs. Henry Synan, sister of the bride, was matron of honor and Mr. Synan was best man.
A wedding breakfast was held at the Zane hotel immediately after the ceremony.
The bride is a graduate of St. Nicholas high school and a member of the church in which she was married. She has been employed by the Bell Telephone company as an operator.
Pfc. Miller, who attended St. Thomas high school and is a member of St. Thomas Catholic church, is to be stationed at Fort Bliss, Tex. He has returned from a year and a half of service in Alaska.
Three sisters of the bride are here for the wedding. They are the Misses Rita, Jean, and Mary Malone of Washington, D.C.
