Joseph H. Johanning Jr.

Joseph H. Johanning's obituary appeared in The Canton (OH) Repository on May 20, 2007 Joseph H. Johanning, age 87, of Canton, Ohio passed away Friday
in the Altercare of Nobles Pond following a brief illness.
Born in Canton, Ohio on September 15, 1919 he was the son of the
late Velma and Joseph Johanning, Sr. He was a veteran of World War II,
serving in the U.S. Army and was a retired employee of the Union Metal
Mfg. Co., retiring in 1982 after 42 years of service. He was a member of
St. John's United Church of Christ in Massillon and a member of the
American Legion.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years,
Jeanette "Jerrie" Johanning, who passed away December 8, 1990. Sur-
vivors include his son, Joseph W. Johanning of North Canton and his
daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne S. and Jon Shepp of Navarre; two
grandchildren, Christopher (Terri) Shepp and Deanna (George) LeBrun;
and three great-grandchildren, Alexandra LeBrun, Julia and Megan Shepp.;
three sisters, Catherine Steele and Betty Bugh, both of Canton and Mary
Popick of Minerva.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday May 23, 2007 in the
Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel with Rev. David Kimberly and Rev.
R.H. "Bob" Moore officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.
Calling hours at the funeral home one hour before services on Wednes-
day from 12-1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's
Association or the Diabetes Foundation. Those wishing to share their

Freda Philomena Johanning

Anniversary announcement:

Mr. and Mrs. James G. Adams Sr. of Louisville celebrated their 60th anniversary Aug. 18 with a dinner party at Lolli's Restaurant. The party was held by their children and spouses, Joanne Teitel and Gale Adams of Massillon; June and Tony Marinakis of Fairview, Tenn.; Diane and James Adams Jr., and Gerald and Joann Adams, all of Louisville; Randall and Barbara Adams of Homeworth; and Victoria and Jesse Otto III of North Canton. The former Freda Johanning and her husband were married July 21, 1941, at St. Paul's Church in Oakland, Md. There are 16 grandchidlren, 14 great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren. Two grandchildren are deceased. Adams is retired from Canton Malleable Iron. Mrs. Adams is a homemaker.
Both are members of Fraternal Order of the Eagles Louisville Aerie No. 2378.


Louis Jerome Johanning

Louis ran away from home at age 13 and joined the rodeo. Unfortunately, he broke his back in an accident. Doctors put a plate in his back and told him he would never walk again. He was in a wheelchair for several years, but eventually regained the ability to walk. Because of his injury, he was unable to serve in World War I. He returned to Canton where he met and married Mary Hoobler, and they raised their family.
