Henry J. Struif

In 1910, Henry Struif (28) rented a home at 115 Camp Ave., Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Living with him were his wife, Mayme (24) and their daughter, Frances (1 year 4 mos). Henry was employed as a laborer for the railroad. Henry's neighbors were his mother, and Joseph C. Hartman (a native of Fulda, Ohio). Joseph Hartman's nephew remembers that the family next to his uncle had cows which they kept for milk. This may have been the Struif family.

In 1920, 36 year old Henry Struif still lived in a rented home at 115 camp Ave., Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Living with him was his wife Mary (32) and daughters Frances (11) and Katherine (9). Frances and Katherine attended school. Henry worked as a millright in a steel mill. All members of the household were born in Pennsylvania as was Mary's father. According to the census, Henry's father was born in Germany and his mother in Ohio. Mary's mother was born in New York. Living next door at 117 Camp Ave. was Henry's widowed mother Anna, his sister Edith with her husband George Cramer and their daughter Irene, and Henry's aunt Catherine Schaad.

In 1930, Henry J. Struif was still in the home at 115 Camp Ave., which he rented for $25 a month. Living there were his wife, Mammie G. (43), and daughters Frances N. (21), Katherine B. (19), and Dolores (9). Henry worked as a policeman at a steel mill.


Mayme G.

In the 1910 census, she's called Mayme. The 1920 census refers to her as Mary. According to the 1910 census, Mayme's parents were born in Pennsylvania. The 1920 and 1930 census has her mother as a native of New York.


Frances N. Struif

In 1930, 21 year old Frances Struif lived with her parents and sisters on Camp Ave. in Braddock, PA. She was employed as a telephone operator.


Katherine B. Struif

In 1930, 19 year old Katherine Struif lived with her parents and sisters at the family home on Camp Ave. in Braddock, PA. She was employed as a saleslady in a dry goods store.


Leo H. Struif

In 1910, 24 year old Leo H. Struff lived with his wife Lorina (25) and month old son Joseph A. in rented space at 1000 Talbot Ave., in Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Six other families also lived at this address. Leo and Lorina had been married for less than 1 year. Leo worked as an engineer in a machine shop. All members of the household were born in Pennsylvania as were Leo's and Lorina's parents.

On 5 Jun 1917, 30 year old Leo Struif of 1323 Lind St., Wheeling, W. VA. filled out a U.S. military draft registration card. He gave his date and place of birth as 24 June 1886 in Braddock, PA. Leo was employed as a molder at the Wheeling Mold Foundry Co. He stated that he had a wife and two children. Leo was described as being a tall man of medium build with brown eyes and black hair. A question on the draft registration that asked about physical disabilities was answered with the word "rupture."

In 1920, 33 year old Leo Stroutz lived with his wife Lorina (34) in a home they owned at 930 Talbot Ave. in Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Living with them were their children Albert (9), Leo (5) and Elenor (2 yrs 2 mos). Also living as renters at 930 Talbot Ave. was 58 year old Bem Schuny and his family. Albert and Leo attended school. Leo worked as a fireman.


George F. Kramer

In 1920, 25 year old George Cramer (sic) lived with his wife Edith and their daughter Irene (2) in the home of his mother-in-law, Mary Struif, at 117 Camp Ave, Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Also living in the house was Edith's aunt and Mary's sister Catherine Schaad (77). (Catherine's last name is written both as Schott and Schaad on the census form. One over top of the other.) Also living at 117 Camp Ave. were renters Christina and Carolina Thomas and John and Hadie Thomas. Living at 115 Camp Ave. was Mary's son, Edith's uncle, Henry Struif (36) and family. George worked as a craneman in a machine shop. George, Edith, and Irene were born in Pennsylvania, Mary and Catherine were born in Ohio. Although Edith lists her mother as being born in Pennsylvania like her father.

In 1930, 36 year old George F. Kramer lived with his wife Edith (31) a in rented home ($25/month) at 117 Camp Ave, Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Living with them were their children Irene M. (12), Joseph J. (10), John Ed (9), George F. Jr. (6), and William (3 yrs 8 mos). All of the children except William attended school. Based on census data, George and Irene had been married for 13 years. George worked as a laborer in the steel works. All members of the household were born in Pennsylvania, George's father and Edith's mother were born in Ohio, George's mother was born in the Irish Free State and Edith's father in Germany. The family did not own a radio set. Living next door at 117 Camp Ave. was Edith's brother Henry Struif and his family.


Edith Struif

Fourteen year old Edith lived with her widowed mother in 1910, but she was not in the household at the time of the 1900 census.


Pauline R. Schafer

The wedding announcement of Polly Schafer and Richard Archer was published in the Zanesville Signal on 22 Sep 1947:
MISS POLLY SCHAFER TO WED RICHARD E ARCHER TOMORROW
Miss Polly Schafer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin L. Schafer of 1119 Eastman street, will become the bride of Richard E. Archer at 10:30 o’clock tomorrow morning.
Rev. Father Francis Schweitzer will read the double ring service in St. Nicholas Catholic church. Mr. Archer is the son of Mrs. Carl Brock of 543 South Gray street.
Miss Jean Schafer will serve as maid of honor for her sister and William Johnston will be best man. Ushers will be Myron Clapper and Russell Denny.
The bride’s parents will entertain with a breakfast at their home following the ceremony and with a reception there from 2 until 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Assistants will be Mrs. Thomas Hudak of Stubenville, Mrs. Myron Clapper, Miss Kathaleen Nelson, and Miss Eileen Gerst.
The bride-elect has resigned her position at the Citizens National bank. Mr. Archer is a senior at the College of Commerce at Ohio State university, Columbus.


Harry Brooks Alexius Singer

Harry (Alex) is a graduate of Mississippi State University and studied for his masters at South Illinois University at Carbondale. He taught Industrial Arts at Pinckneyville High School.


Mary Ann Easdale

Mary Ann Easdale Singer is a graduate of Sparta (IL) High School and Weaver Airline School in Kansas City Missouri.


Carl Kirk Smith

Carl Smith was a foreman at Hanna Coal Co.
