***
In the fall of 1962, as an eighth grade assignment, Dennis Hughes was asked to put together and describe his family tree. He contacted his mother's parents for help in this project. In a letter to Dennis Hughes dated October 27, 1962, Maurice George Karl, his grandfather, wrote:

Dear Dennis,
To get all the information that I want in regards to our family tree it will be necessary for me to make a trip to Dover (formerly named Canal Dover--the "Canal" was dropped when I was a boy), but I figured you might want it before I got to Dover. The teacher won't know the difference, but when I get additional information I will send it to you. Now when one of you takes up typing it would be nice if you made a copy for each one in your family, then as the tree grows you could all add to it and keep up to date and leave blank spaces because Oliver had 3 children, Eugene Weaver had 2, Raymond Weaver had 1, William Weaver had 2, Hannah Weaver had 6, William Karl had 3, Edward Karl had 3, Agnes Karl had 10 children. Some of my cousins died already and most of my uncles and aunts. My green thumb does not apply to family trees, so you will have to arrange it according to the rules. Let me know what kind of a grade we get. Good Luck.

We got back from Dayton yesterday afternoon and had a real good visit. Harold is recuperating satisfactorily and I got everything in ship shape so they ought to survive the Winter. They had 2" of snow on Thursday and by Cleveland 6" to 12"--it looks beautiful, BUT. Nancy had a little temp. and sore throat when we left, the rest are all fine. Harold lost a lot of weight and has to walk with a cane. We have not read anything in the papers for a mo. about Fla. sleeping sickness, for now Cuba has the headlines--always something.
Our Love to All,

Grandpa and Grandma
